This 9-day/8-night bike trip along the dunes of the Namib Desert is something to put on every cyclists “bucket list”. Not for beginners though. You need to have at least average bike handling skills, you need to be able to sit in the saddle for 8 hours on some days, you need to love nature, be able to handle whatever it throws at you (sandstorm, heat, cold, rain), you need to be able to dig deep, you need to love camping, the outdoors and most importantly – you need to love the desert and sand, lots and lots of sand!! Accommodation includes 7 nights of camping in single pop up tents and one night in a guesthouse in Swakopmund.

There is also an ‘easier’ 5 day trip available, covering some of the Namib and up to Swakopmund, with stays in lodges and guests houses along the way.

Another great trip is a 9-day/8-night tour covering Damaraland in the north and ending in Swakopmund, with stays at various rustic camps and campsites! GREAT adventure with opportunity to see the desert elephant!

Who can go?

Fairly fit, experienced and adventurous cyclists in small groups, with a min of 6 and a max of 12 people.
There are a number of scheduled start dates for individual travellers, or groups of less than 6 people.

Where is this?

This safari covers some of the most pristine and remote areas left on earth! Traverse the Namib Desert from the south, to Walvisbay in the north, finishing at Swakopmund! Cycle through dunes and on the beach, sleep out in the open, visit the forsaken remnants of the Diamond towns in the “Sperrgebiet”, get close to shipwrecks on the skeleton coast, see seals and Oryx and jackals where the Atlantic meets the dunes.

The tour to the north covers some of the best locations of Damaraland!

What should I expect to pay?

The cost for a 9-day tour is around USD 2 500 per person sharing and on a fully inclusive basis based on 8 riders. It includes transfers from Windhoek to and from the Namib, as well as Windhoek Airport.

The 5-day tour is around USD 1500 per person also based on 8 riders.
