The combination of wide open grasslands, rivers and forest result in a kind of magical calm. Its peace washes over you, leaving you open to receive what the forest wants to share with you.

Mboko Camp is the home of adventure. The experiences here are a combination of walking, boating and kayaking through some of the Congo Basin’s most beautiful habitats. Explore the Lekoli River by drifting along its winding causeway in a kayak or head upstream in a motorboat to delve deeper into the forests on foot or explore baïs further afield. Travellers spending time at Mboko are spoiled for choice with how to spend their days.

Frequent visitors to Mboko Camp include herds of forest buffalo and the elusive forest elephant. From the elevated dining room, gaze on as the buffalo enjoy a breakfast of their own in the morning mist of the savannah. In the evening, look out into the twilight in search of fireflies and late at night, you may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the spotted hyena.

Ten guest chalets (double-occupancy and two family) extend along the banks of a free-flowing tributary of the Lekoli River. Mboko Camp gives a sense of the scale of Odzala-Kokoua National Park while allowing you to focus on some of the smaller details: flowers and butterflies (depending on the season) can be seen in profusion.

Breath-taking views abound of the interface between tropical rainforest, waterways and grassland savannah, where hundreds of towering termite mounds create an otherworldly experience. The spacious cabins are dotted along the Lekoli River in the tree line offering a private deck with seating and a view of either the forest or river, en-suite bathroom with hot shower and flush toilet, mosquito net, and environmentally friendly soaps and shampoos.

The dining room, lounge and bar area look out into the wide-open grasslands with the star deck and fire pit an extension of these living areas. Unwind after a day spent walking through the various biomes while watching the sun set over the equatorial jungle or lightning dance along the horizon..

Mboko Camp affords spectacular star-viewing opportunities before falling asleep to the sounds of life-giving water flowing past each cabin on its way to meet the Congo River, a haven of peace.
