A safari designed to showcase the best Uganda has to offer in terms of beautiful locations, unique wildlife and of course – the incredible primate diversity. This primate safari incorporates two separate Chimpanzee treks, a primate walk for the smaller species and finally the main event – a Mountain Gorilla trek!

Itinerary in Brief

Uganda has an incredible biodiversity and much to offer for safari travellers. In this safari, Frank has selected his favourite lodges which grant access to the most incredible wildlife experiences the country has to offer. Both Savanna and forest species!

The first lodge is so well situated in the Kibale Forest that: The Chimpanzees are often heard screaming through the forest as you have breakfast prior to setting off on your first Chimp trekking experience. From here, head to Uganda’s premier game viewing park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, for a private boat cruise along a wildlife rich channel, followed by accommodation in a luxury lodge. The next morning set out for yet another Chimp trekking experience, but this time, a different community in the Kyambura Gorge, before continuing to your next nights accommodation in the Ishaha sector of Queen Elizabeth. Spent another night here with game drives in search of the famous Ishaha resident tree climbing lions and other interesting Savanna wildlife. Then onto the main event in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park where you will spend a day trekking in search of Mountain Gorillas in their natural habitat.

This Safari really showcases the best kept secrets of Uganda and with Frank as your host, you can be assured of a carefree, quality and unforgettable Primate Safari in Uganda’s wildlife hotspots.

Detailed itinerary

1st & 2nd Nights: Primate Lodge

Primate Lodge is the only lodge situated within Kibale Forest National Park. The lodge is a short walking distance from the starting point where the Chimpanzee trekking experience will take place.

During your time here, you will be taking part in a Bigodi Swamp Walk, which is an introductory walk around a swamp for viewing of both primates and birdlife. Followed by a Chimpanzee trekking experience in the Kibale Forest National Park.

3rd Night: Kyambura Gorge Lodge

Prior to reaching Kyambura gorge lodge, the group will take part in a private boating trip along a wildlife rich channel in the northern section of Queen Elizabeth National park. Sightings are likely to include elephants, buffaloes, hippos, crocodiles, birdlife and whatever else you happen to find along the banks. Then stopping over at the beautiful luxurious Kyambura Gorge Lodge for the night.

4th & 5th Nights: Ishasha Wilderness Camp

Another morning spent Chimp trekking, but this time in Kyambura Gorge where another community of Chimps await. The chimps are a little bit less predictable here than in Kibale but the area itself is stunning with much else to offer. A transfer and short game drive to your next nights accommodation at Ishaha Wildereness lodge.

The lodge is located inside the Ishaha sector along a beautiful stream in the wilderness. A truly idyllic location from which to explore the nearby area, looking for the famous tree climbing lions. The area has great game viewing with classic acacia savannah veld.

6th & 7th Nights: Buhoma Lodge

Another morning game drive in Ishasha before departing to Buhoma lodge in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. The aim is to relax and rest at this upmarket lodge before the next day where the group will embark on a half day Mountain Gorilla trek in the park.

You’ve saved the best for last and not only is the park stunning, but the time spent with the Gorilla’s is an incredibly moving experience. There are fewer than 1000 Mountain Gorillas alive so finding a family and spending an hour with them as they go about their business, is incredibly special and, you visiting them is actively contributing to their conservation.

After a fairly strenuous trek in the morning, northing but relaxation and celebration is planned for your last evening in this gorgeous lodge. The perfect time to toast to a successful visit to Uganda!
