A UNESCO World Heritage site and worth a visit

The Island of Mozambique (Portuguese: Ilha de Moçambique) sits off Mozambique’s north coast and is part of Nampula Province. It’s connected to the mainland by a bridge. For almost four centuries it was the capital and trading centre of Portuguese East Africa, a rich bazaar of European, Arab and Indian cultures dominated by the 16th-century most formidable sandstone fort and coral-rock ‘stone town’. With its rich history and sandy beaches, the Island of Mozambique is a UNESCO World Heritage site and worth a visit.
