At SAFARI FRANK, we frequently receive inquiries from our guests about essential items to pack for their safari adventure. To ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience, we provide a comprehensive packing list to all our guests upon booking. However, we’d like to offer some professional advice on five items you might consider leaving behind to make your journey more comfortable and hassle-free.

Hair dryer

Considering the intense heat of the African sun, particularly around midday, we advise washing your hair at lunchtime for a natural, quick dry. This not only saves space in your luggage but also allows you to embrace the natural elements of your safari experience.

Perfume

In the wilderness, the natural aroma of the bush is part of the immersive experience. Additionally, it’s believed by some that elephants and other wildlife may be deterred by the scent of perfumes. We recommend prioritizing comfort over fragrance, though a light deodorant is perfectly acceptable. Simplifying your packing list by excluding perfume also streamlines your airport security experience.

Pocket knife

While the allure of adventure might tempt you to bring along a pocket knife, rest assured that your guides are well-equipped for any situation that may arise, often carrying tools as robust as a machete. Your safety and needs are our top priority, and our guides are more than willing to assist with any tasks requiring a knife.

Specialized Outdoor Clothing

There’s no need to invest in a brand-new outdoor wardrobe just for your trip. The clothing you already own is likely suitable for safari activities. For those planning to engage in bush-walks, a sturdy pair of walking or running shoes is advisable. We recommend attire in neutral shades such as beige, olive, or brown, though we’re not strict on colors unless it’s overly bright or reflective. We encourage our guests to make eco-friendly choices by avoiding unnecessary purchases and selecting clothes that can be worn long after the safari ends.

Mosquito spray

The mosquito repellent available in your home country might not be as effective as products sold locally and can often be more expensive. Most lodges provide mosquito spray, or you can purchase effective and affordable options at supermarkets in the area.
