This safari created for those serious about wildlife photography which combines both of Zambia’s most famous rivers for wildlife viewing, the Luangwa and the Zambezi river. Both are host to a large diversity and density of game ranging from big too small.
Itinerary in Brief
The first 6 nights of the photographic safari are spent at two camps from Shenton Safaris who have guides trained to aid their photographic guests get the shots they want, but they also have a number of their own private photographic hides from where amazing photographs at unique angles are able to be captured. One can combine these hides along with 2 photographic game drives to get 3 activities for photography in one day. Then from here a flight sees you change scenery completely to Chongwe River Camp where the wildlife viewing is matched only by the scenery and landscapes adding another aspect to the photographic opportunities.
This 8-night photographic safari is well suited for anyone from single travellers, couples and medium sized groups seeking to focus on photography and have the best possible chance of capturing the photographs they want. The accommodation is of very high standard and you will find all the luxuries one needs to be comfortable in this pristine wilderness! There’s a great variety in the camps and a range of activities and incredible game viewing and photographic opportunities.

1st & 2nd Nights: Kaingo Camp
Kaingo boasts five standard chalets and a deluxe suite, all of which have a private and stunning deck on the Luangwa river from where wildlife can be viewed at your leisure. Each chalet also has an indoor en-suite bathroom, private outdoor bathtub and spacious veranda.
The chalets are connected by pathway to the main area which consists of a lounge area, bar, dining area and a large deck overlooking the Luangwa. It is here where delicious meals are served at the communal tables which create a homely atmosphere.
3rd,4th & 5th Nights: Mwamba Bush Camp
With only four reed constructed chalets, Mwamba sleeps a maximum of eight guests making for a truly intimate and exclusive safari experience. Each chalet has a skylight, allowing for viewing of the night sky from the comforts of your mosquito-netted bed, and each chalet also has an en-suite outdoor bathroom which contains a flush toilet and hot water showers through a bucket shower system.
The camp sports its own exclusive wildlife hide which is perfect for in-between activity wildlife viewing. Being the sister camp of Kaingo camp, staying at Mwamba also give you access to all of the Shenton safari’s photographic hides, guaranteeing unique wildlife encounters.
6th, 7th 8th Nights: Chongwe River Camp
Situated right at the confluence of the Chongwe and the Zambezi rivers, Chongwe is perfectly positioned in this wildlife haven. In the shade of giant –elephant attracting- trees, the camp spreads out over the banks of the Zambezi, with each tent offering panoramic views.
The tents have open air bathrooms, ceiling fans, awesome beds and charging facilities to keep those busy cameras charged.
The range of activities are impressive as one can explore the land by vehicle or on foot and the waterways by boat cruises, canoe and tiger fishing. Combine this with the incredible wildlife density of the frequently changing habitats and this place is a real gem.
