Why we like it
- Very rustic and authentic Zambian bushcamp.
- Walking safaris only with experienced guides.
- Combines well with sister camps both in North & South Luangwa.
Chikoko Trails incorporates two small and exclusive bush camps, Chikoko Tree Camp and Crocodile River Camp, from which unparalleled walking safaris are offered, strolling from camp to camp
View on Google EarthChikoko Tree Camp is part of the Chikoko Trails Experience. The chalets are raised to tree canopy level, providing a shady and comfortable vantage point from which to enjoy the magnificent view of the plains and animal activities along the seasonal Chikoko Channel in front of camp.
The intimate camp offers accommodation for a maximum of six guests in simple, grass walled chalets with en suite flush toilets and showers. Hot water is provided upon request. The camps are manned by an experienced walking guide, an armed scout, a chef and general camp staff. All luggage and supplies are transported by porters, enabling guests to simply relax and enjoy their walking safari.
Located in the South Luangwa National Park, a few kilometres upstream from parent camp Tafika, Chikoko and Crocodile are only accessible on foot and offer a fantastic bush experience – being immersed in the idyll of remotest Africa. On foot, the minutiae of the bush come to the fore: the smells; the essence of the macro world and a sense of timelessness.
Guests enjoy good sightings of buffalo, elephant and zebra as well as a Luangwa Valley endemic, Thornicroft’s giraffe. Lion and leopard are often spotted on foot if approached quietly. Kudu and roan antelope may be seen later in the dry season when the buffalo congregate into enormous herds of up to a thousand, which makes for spectacular game viewing. Thanks to the pristine nature of this area the birdlife too is diverse and abundant.
