Why we like it
- Be on safari within minutes from arrival in Nairobi!
- Great family owned and operated lodge.
- Spectacular views over the Park.
- See four of the BIG5, very close to the city….
- Visit the orphaned elephants at feeding time.
The Emakoko allows people to start and finish their safari in the wildlife environment they have travelled so far to enjoy. Within 20 minutes of clearing customs you can be viewing game in the amazing Nairobi National park. The only “transfer” delays likely to be encountered en route to or from The Emakoko are the natural pauses to watch a pride of lions or waiting for a Rhino or journey of Giraffe to cross the road.
The Nairobi National Park, despite its proximity to the capital city of Kenya, boasts a spectacular assortment of birds and wildlife, with over 400 species of birds recorded in one day! With an excellent possibility of spotting four of the BIG5, many Nairobi residents find the lodge a perfect antidote to the hustle and bustle of city life.
The concept for The Emakoko was the brainchild of Anthony and Emma Childs – your hosts during your stay. They live on site with their small family and their dedicated team of staff, who are delighted to welcome guests and for whom nothing is too much trouble.
The Emakoko is a twenty-four-bed, luxury lodge artfully built into the side of a valley on the Mbagathi River, on the border of the Nairobi National Park. Great care has been taken to incorporate the beautiful fig trees which grow on the cliff where the lodge is situated. All rooms look straight over the river and into the Park.
Whether you are enjoying an Emakoko cocktail in the viewing area or simply a coffee by the pool overlooking the river, relaxation is assured. There is also the chance to see the resident hippo, who also likes to keep an eye on you. He can be seen grazing on the lawn outside the rooms in the early evening or the morning.
With ten rooms The Emakoko offers an exclusive and personal environment for guests to enjoy. The beautifully appointed rooms look out over the game park so one can fall asleep to the sounds of Africa, a lion roaring or the cry of a lone hyena, an amazing contrast to the sounds of traffic, ambulances, fire engines and dogs barking which are the normal sounds of any sleeping city.
There are five rooms on the same level as the main areas and a further five rooms with the most spectacular views positioned on top of the cliff, overlooking the valley. The climb to the upper rooms is well worth it. Each room has an ensuite bathroom with both a bath tub and a shower and each room has its own private veranda.
Take a game drives into one of the most unique game parks in the World, the Nairobi National Park, or a visit to see the orphaned elephants. Born from one family’s passion for Kenya and its wilderness, the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is today the most successful orphan-elephant rescue and rehabilitation program in the world and one of the pioneering conservation organisations for wildlife and habitat protection in East Africa.
