Your safari at Karen Blixen Camp will feel like you have step back in time to when safaris first begun, with stylish canvas tents decorated with white linen and Persian carpets, all built on beautiful wooden platforms with a spacious veranda overlooking the Mara River. This now eco-friendly camp is situated in the pristine Mara North Conservancy in Masai Mara, one of the most densely populated natural wildlife areas in the world. All tents are placed with undisturbed view along the Mara River giving unique and private game viewing to the Oloololo Escarpment and its rich wildlife.
This safari is perfect for the solo traveller, couples and families as the tents are large enough to add in extra beds for children under the age of 12 or choose to stay in a family unit which consists of two tents and shared veranda.
Watch the resident hippo pod from your armchair in the lounge area, sit around the campfire after your evening game drive before sitting down to a delicious meal inspired by Karen Blixen’s passion for cooking and some of her recipes are bought to life again with an influence of French, English, Italian & Danish dishes.
Guests are taken out on game drives within the Mara North Conservancy for the utmost exclusive and private safari experience. Guests are encouraged to walk with the local Maasai and learn about their cultural, the use of the indigenous plants for medical and ritual purposes and to experience the Mara on foot.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1 to 4: Karen Blixen Camp, Masai Mara
Depart from Wilson Airport in Nairobi on your scheduled flight into the Masai Mara.
Upon arrival at the Airstrip, you will be met and transferred to the camp, game viewing along the way.
Game drives are conducted within the Mara North Conservancy for that private and exclusive experience. During the migration season (or on request) guests are offered the opportunity to go into the Masai Mara National Reserve, or to Mara Conservancy (Mara Triangle), to have a chance to see the wildebeests crossing the Mara River.
Leave camp just before sunrise for your early morning game drive; return for breakfast and relax in camp before going on the afternoon game drive. If one wishes to go for a full day game drive, a picnic lunch basket is provided. For those who wish to experience the adventures of the African night the afternoon game drive can be extended into a night game drive.
Nature walks are also on offer where guests learn about the trees, shrubs, birds and little insects inhabiting the Mara grassland and how the Maasai make use of the flora for medical and ritual purposes. Also on offer are community visits, visits to the traditional Maasai village, the local primary school or the busy Maasai market. Also, eco-camp walks, where guides show you how to run an eco-friendly luxury camp out in the bush with solar panels, non-power cold room, gas burners, zero waste sewage system and waste management.
The Camp comprises of 22 luxurious en-suite canvas tents (4.6m x 8m), each set on a beautiful mahogany platform with a spacious veranda (5m x 13m) completed with cushion daybed from which one can enjoy an afternoon siesta, taking in the wonderful surroundings. All tents are placed along the river. The family unit consists of two tents with a shared veranda. Each tent has a private bathroom with WC, twin washbasins and an outdoor shower with a view to the sky. Tents can be configured for double or twin occupancy. For families travelling with children a 3rd or a 4th bed can be added.
The Camp’s central lounge and mess areas are set on a raised timber deck overlooking a hippo pod in the Mara river. The area also incorporates a restaurant and informal bar area next to reception.
Balloon excursions can be arranged for the real thrill of gliding high above the impressive Masai Mara savannah while looking down at herds of elephant and zebras beneath you. A champagne breakfast awaits you in the middle of the bush.
