Detailed itinerary

Day 1 to 4: Laikipia Wilderness, Laikipia Highlands

Touching down at Loisaba airstrip in Laikipia you will be picked up by the Team from Laikipia Wilderness for a road transfer to Camp. Adventure starts right away as you head out into the real wilderness, that is this part of Laikipia!

Laikipia Wilderness is in the Ol Doinyo Lemboro Ranch in the central area of Laikipia and the Camp blends perfectly into a hillside above the Ewaso Narok river. The river is the lifeline of the area and also forms the basis of many of the adventures on offer here for kids.

The freedom of this wilderness area means you can discover Africa in a more connected way than just witnessing it out of a moving vehicle. Explore rocky outcrops and walk along the river that carves it way through this part of Laikipia with an experienced guide. Venture through valleys and on top of escarpments with endless views of wilderness. Stop and listen and watch for a while, just magic!

The area has large herds of elephants all year round, lions, leopards, spotted hyena, common and Grevy’s zebra, warthog, hippo in the river, buffalo, and many different antelope species. Over 350 different species of birds have been recorded and the guides are highly trained in helping you spot and identify them.

Laikipia Wilderness is a great family safari destination because for more than 20 years they have specialised in hosting families and the camp has a huge range of adventurous activities which engage families, including bush walks, sleepouts and river adventures. The hosts love keeping everyone busy and excited and aim to create life-long family memories. This is really important as a safari can be an incredible bonding experience, leaving behind the gadgets of the modern world and surrounding everybody in nature and adventure. The guides all have children and Kenyans are very warm, family minded people and delightful hosts.

After 4 glorious nights and busy days, it will be time to say a goodbye to your new friends at the Camp, head out to the airstrip and take a flight to the next adventure that awaits in the Masai Mara….

Day 5 to 6: House in the Wild, Greater Masai Mara

On arrival in the north of the Masai Mara you will be met by your guide from House in the Wild and do a game drive transfer to the Lodge.

House in the Wild is located north west of the Maasai Mara Reserve, within the Enonkishu Conservancy bordering Lemek, and Ol Chorro conservancies. The House in the Wild is set on beautiful grounds within a 1000-acre private estate Naretoi, within the Enonkishu Conservancy with a pool and lawn on the banks of the Mara River, it is a very tranquil space!

Tarquin and Lippa Wood, along with their daughters Tamara & Pepali, and son Wilbur, live five minutes away from the House. Tarquin and Lippa are the founders of the Enonkishu Conservancy and the Mara Training Centre. The house was originally a family getaway on the Wood’s commercial farm but has been restored and lovingly put together by Tarquin, Lippa and their team.

Whilst being on the edge of the one of the best game viewing areas in the Mara, the immediate area surrounding House in the Wild is on a wildlife estate (what used to be a commercial farm) and is fenced, therefore safe for walking, running, bicycle riding, offering guests a first-hand experience of what life in the bush is like! Great for kids, there are cows to milk, a farm school to visit and Maasai to dance with!

The Lodge is hosted by an excellent team of local staff and overseen by the Wood family. Guests can enjoy accompanied bush walks, game drives, sundowners, bush meals and farm visits. Your days will be filled with non-stop activities and adventure to suit the needs of your family!

On the last morning say a heartfelt goodbye to the House in the Wild Team, transfer to the airstrip for the flight to Nairobi and connect home or onto the next destination!
