This safari combines 2 of Frank’s favourite Botswana luxury camps as well as a 3rd camp which is a rustic and private tented camp. These three camps give access to three vastly different areas and experiences! Breathtaking views and scenery, a touch of 5-star luxury, rustic and intimate tented camp, a big range of activities and incredible wildlife!

Itinerary in Brief

3 Nights in Dinaka

3 Nights in Footsteps Camp

3 Nights in Kanana Camp

Starting off in an exclusive private reserve hugging the northern edge of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, an area that is home to some desert specials, such as the Kalahari lion, springbok, Oryx and Brown Hyena. A short charter flight has you flying from the dry Kalahari desert over the vast expanse of wetlands that make up the Okavango Delta. You will land in the private Shindi concession, an area of vast grasslands with permanent lagoons where you will be accommodated in an intimate tented camp that focuses on exploring the area on foot and by vehicle. Then another short charter flight sees you changing scenery as you land in the heart of the Okavango Delta, a private concession that encompasses a necklace of islands dotted with palms, figs, ebony and knobthorn, and is home to a myriad of birds, plants and animals.

This 9-night authentic & luxury mix safari is well suited for anyone from single travellers to medium sized groups seeking to experience Botswana with plenty of luxury, exclusivity and a bit of adventure. The accommodation is of high standard and you will find all the luxuries one needs to be comfortable in this pristine wilderness. Both locations are private and in prime locations so one can expect to get the full Okavango and Kalahari experience. And, best of all, there is a 4 guest per vehicle limit so there are no crammed vehicles – it’s all personal, private, attention from top quality guides. THAT is luxury.

With three strongly contrasting landscapes, Frank believes this gives you a great exposure to many different animal’s species and habitat types allowing for a greater diversity of the overall experience.

Detailed itinerary

1st, 2nd & 3rd Nights: Dinaka

Guests are accommodated in seven spacious twin and double-bedded safari tents, each en-suite bathroom has an indoor and outdoor shower, hot and cold running water and flush toilet. Families are accommodated in a two-bedroomed tent, sharing a spacious en-suite bathroom – ideal for families in this child-friendly camp. Dinaka’s tents are well spaced and raised up on wooden decks giving the perfect vantage point over a permanent water hole. Connected by wooden walkways all areas of camp are accessible by wheelchair.

The annual rains transform the arid desert landscape into a lush profusion of Kalahari vegetation, offering guests a unique insight into the lesser known desert experience. The Sleep Out Deck offers guests a panoramic view and the opportunity to spend the night under the magnificent African night sky.

Situated alongside the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, the focus of activities at Dinaka is exploring the Kalahari experience with wildlife ranging from giraffe to the antelope, small mammals like the honey badger, bat eared fox and porcupine to predators including the Kalahari lion, cheetah, leopard and brown hyena. Activities include morning and afternoon game drives in open safari vehicles, with afternoon game drives often continuing into the evening. Our window seat guarantee ensures no more than four guests per vehicle when out on game drives. Alternatively, you may get more up close and personal with nature on foot with guided bush walks. Birding is particularly spectacular as Dinaka hosts over 200 different bird species including the Kori Bustard and Crimson Breasted Shrike and a high concentration of Pale Chanting Goshawks

4th, 5th & 6th Nights: Footsteps Camp

This comfortable private camp which accommodates guests in three specially designed, twin-bedded, Meru tents complete with sewn-in floors. One of the three twin bedded tents can be converted into a family unit that sleeps five. Each tent has its own newly refurbished en-suit bathroom including wash basin, porcelain flush toilet and bush shower, even a daily laundry service.

The ‘bush kitchen’ is run by a chef and prepares menus to whet all appetites.

The camp is set on the edge of a permanent lagoon full of hippos and, from this wonderful base we are able to offer something very special – the opportunity to explore the wilderness on foot: to get up close and personal with the African bush. It’s not to be missed.

7th, 8th & 9th Nights: Kanana

Guests are accommodated in seven spacious twin and double-bedded safari tents and one family tent, each with en-suite bathrooms with shower, hot and cold running water and flush toilet. The tents are well spaced, affording privacy whilst remaining within comfortable distance from the main camp area.

The annual floods transform parts of this concession into a true water paradise, offering guests the best of both worlds. At certain times of the year guests may actually enjoy the breathtaking spectacle of the water visibly rising around the camp’s raised teak decks. Experience magnificent game sightings during drives as well as the unique experience of exploring the delta’s beautiful waterways by boat. There is also a Sleep Out Deck that offers guests the opportunity to spend the night under the splendid African night sky.

Situated in the Kanana Concession, the focus of activities at Kanana varies with the rising and falling levels of the Okavango Delta. Activities include morning and late afternoon game drives in open safari vehicles, with afternoon game drives often continuing into the evening. Alternatively, you may explore the crystal-clear waterways by Mokoro or motorboat, and enjoy the magnificent variety of birds, plant and reptile species found in the area. Birding is spectacular, and Kanana hosts a seasonal heronry that teems with activity, a Kanana highlight which converts all visitors to avid ‘twitchers’. Guided bush walks are highly recommended as is fishing for tilapia, African pike and sharptooth catfish.
