Ngepi Camp

Ngepi (hello) Camp is set on an island under amazing trees with permanent river frontage and surrounded by seasonally flooded swamps. It is a paradise of flooded plains and secret swampy backwaters, teaming with wildlife, as it is nestled between Mahango National park, a few km’s to the south, and Bwabwata National Park directly opposite across the river.

The Camp offers Tree Houses, Family Bush Huts and Campsites. The Camps’ main area has a bar, restaurant, dining area and curio shops and guests can cool off in the unique ‘floating swimming pool’ in the river.

The remarkable Tree Houses are built on the river’s edge, all with en-suite bathrooms, or there are Family Bush Huts, tucked away, each one in its own private garden, which will leave you wishing you can stay forever….

With grateful respect the owners have endeavoured to ‘feel the best way’ for every tree house to complement its individual tree. They aimed to have the house fit the tree’s structure naturally, like two puzzle pieces, in a way that would cause no harm to the tree during or after construction. Each tree’s shape and location uniquely defined how the hut was to be built. The houses were placed on the eastern side of the tree so they would receive the blessing of the afternoon shade. Each tree house was also specially designed so that guests could see the sun rise between their toes when lying in bed! The simple décor, the roll down reed walls and the evaporative air-conditioning are all conducive to relaxing harmoniously in nature.

In true symbiotic spirit, all water and waste are re-directed back to the tree in order for it to get the benefit of fertilizer and water. In keeping with the eco-friendly philosophy the Camp use only solar power and also energy from the river itself to pump some of the water needs using a water wheel.

The award-winning Campsites are along the river’s edge, with a grassed camping area and an adjacent parking space for vehicles, trailers and caravans. Each site has its own 220v AC solar powered electricity point, river water tap and fireplace/braai area. The bush campsites are a bit more secluded, with lovely big trees for shade, but they have no river view. Take the tour of Ngepi’s world famous funky ablutions – a selection of very unique outdoor showers and toilets!

Ngepi offers the best in adventure and relaxation for everyone such as a Namibian delta experience, sunset & sunrise boat cruises, fishing, mokoro trips, Dragon river rafting, guided nature and village walks, game drives or just relax in the world famous “Croc” Pool!
