Mount Gahinga Lodge opened in 1997 and was the first lodge of the Volcanoes Safaris collection. It is the perfect base to go gorilla tracking on the Ugandan side of the Virungas, track the rare golden monkey, climb a volcano, walk through local villages and most of all to share the culture of the Batwa, the oldest inhabitants of the Central African rain forest.

Nestled at the base of the Virunga Volcanoes, Mount Gahinga Lodge is a stunning luxury adventure lodge hidden in the southern corner of Uganda.

The charming property, inspired by traditional design and building techniques, has been re-imagined in 2019: the lounge, dining room, and gardens have been remodelled, and two new deluxe bandas have been launched. A stunning sun terrace overlooking the Virunga Volcanoes with scenic panoramic views.

The luxury bandas reflect the magic of the aesthetic traditions of the Bufimbira people, with their distinct colours. Each Banda has an ensuite luxury shower room, fireplace and private porch.

All 8 bandas (6 standard and 2 deluxe) are complete with en-suite bathrooms with flushing toilet, double vanity and shower with hot & cold running water – all with a fireplace in the room. Complimentary laundry service available. Power sockets/charging facilities and hair dryers available in the rooms. No air conditioners.

Tranquil massage room available to every guest. One 30-minute complimentary massage per guest per stay. Extra massages are available at extra cost. Personal butler service available to all guests. Accommodation on a Full board basis, including all soft drinks and house alcoholic beverages (excludes premium drinks).  Wi-Fi and internet access available in the main lodge only (connection can be slow).

The activities in the nearby region are plentiful, we recommend a 3 night stay. Activities include: Gorilla tracking, golden monkey tracking, visit the Gahinga Batwa village, a Batswa cultural heritage tour, hike Mount Sabinyo, Mount Gahinga or Mount Muhavura volanoes and finally hike the Kisozi caldera.
