A focal point for world-class primate research, as well as unforgettable primate encounters, Ngaga Lodge overlooks a canopy of primary forest. The unique design evokes the fun and mystery of childhood treehouses, with wraparound walkways to gaze directly into the forest.

Nestled in the Ndzehi Forest, on the western boundary of Odzala-Kokoua National Park, Ngaga Lodge is a sanctuary of science and soul. Originally founded as a primate research centre and gorilla tourism pilot project, it became the first lodge supported by Congo Conservation Company – now Kamba. Here, community, research, and responsible tourism converge to protect the forest’s most iconic inhabitants: the western lowland gorillas. Dappled sunlight filters through ancient trees. The scent of rain lingers. And the hum of life surrounds you.
Experience & Activities:
Ngaga Lodge lies within the overlapping ranges of several western lowland gorilla families – three of which are habituated. Daily, dedicated researchers and trackers from nearby communities follow these gorillas, documenting their behaviour and movement. Guests join small, respectful trekking groups (maximum four people) led by expert guides and trackers into the marantaceae forest.
Encounters are intimate, natural, and awe-inspiring – gorillas climbing trees, feeding on ripe fruit, or calling through the canopy.
Beyond gorilla trekking, Ngaga offers guided forest walks by day and night. Listen to birds, frogs, and insects as the jungle comes alive. After dark, spot flickering fireflies or glimmering eyes among the trees – a reminder that the forest never sleeps. At the Ngaga stream, unwind with sundowners. Dip your feet into cool water as your guide serves a refreshing drink, surrounded by the sounds of dusk. Back at the lodge, enjoy sunset drinks on the star deck, watching the forest glow in golden light before night descends.
Every experience at Ngaga connects guests to the rhythm of the forest – a world still untouched by time.
Accommodation:
Six hand-built chalets rise on stilts 3–4 meters above the forest floor, blending seamlessly with their surroundings. Constructed with locally woven raffia palm panels, each room offers a private 360° wraparound walkway overlooking the treetops. Inside, you’ll find comfortable double or twin beds, mosquito nets, fans, and eco-friendly amenities. Bathrooms feature hot showers, flush toilets, and locally made natural soaps and shampoos. Screened windows invite a gentle forest breeze and the soothing sounds of birds, frogs, and night calls. The dining room, lounge, and bar are elevated with panoramic views of the forest canopy. Below, the fire pit and star deck create the perfect space for pre-dinner drinks beneath a sky filled with stars. Ngaga’s ambience blends rustic charm and scientific legacy – a place where comfort meets curiosity.
