Pambele Beach House sits on the remote San Sebastian Peninsula in Mozambique, where it faces the world-renowned Bazaruto Archipelago National Park. Here, the property lies within the protected Vilanculos Coastal Wildlife Sanctuary, while untouched coastal forest lines the land behind the house. In front, turquoise Indian Ocean waters stretch endlessly toward the horizon.

As an exclusive-use retreat, the property welcomes up to ten guests at a time. Inside, open-plan living spaces flow seamlessly toward the ocean, while outside, private sunbathing decks and a pool complete the relaxed coastal experience. Just beyond, the soft sand lies only steps from every villa. At low tide, guests can walk for kilometres along the shore, where flamingos feed quietly in the shallows and traditional Mozambican dhows drift past on the horizon.

Pambele is owned by the family behind Botswana’s Mashatu Game Reserve, and as such, the same conservation ethic shapes everything here. For example, solar power and natural water filtration systems help reduce the environmental footprint, while local artisans and artists influence the décor throughout. Reaching Pambele is part of the experience itself. Daily flights connect Johannesburg to Vilanculos International Airport, after which guests transfer by boat or helicopter charter to the beach house. From the very beginning, the journey sets the tone for what follows.

Accommodation:

Pambele offers four detached beachfront villas, together accommodating up to ten guests. These include two Premium Villas, one Classic Villa, and one Family Villa, with the Family Villa featuring two rooms that perfectly suit families or small groups travelling together.

Inside each villa, a king bed draped in mosquito nets creates a restful retreat, while en suite bathrooms feature double vanities along with both indoor and outdoor showers. In addition, the two Premium Villas include bathtubs for added indulgence. Spacious interiors provide comfortable lounging areas, a tea and coffee station, and a minibar, all complemented by bespoke décor and locally inspired artwork reflecting Mozambican culture throughout.

Beyond the interiors, aluminium shutters open onto private decks fitted with loungers and daybeds, inviting guests to fully embrace the coastal setting. From here, each villa looks directly out over the Bazaruto Archipelago, while the Vilanculos Coastal Wildlife Sanctuary wraps protectively around the property on the landward side.
