Enjoy daytrips to the famous Winelands of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek or explore the Cape of Good Hope during a Peninsula Tour. After Cape Town, catch a direct flight to Skukuza Airport in the Kruger National Park and get transferred to an intimate and luxurious classic farm styled accommodation in the famous Sabi Sands Game Reserve. The Sabi Sands is renowned as one of the world’s premier wildlife destinations and is certainly one of the best places to spot the Big 5. Spending 3 nights here ensures a rich and full safaris experience. Catch an early transfer to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport followed by a direct flight to Vilanculos and a short helicopter transfer to Benguerra Island, where you will be relaxing on the beach for the next 4 nights. Explore the warm waters and marvel at the marine life of the island’s coral reefs on scuba diving expeditions, enjoy the thrill of deep-sea fishing or simply explore the magical setting and soaring dunes of Benguerra.

This safari is perfect for couples, honeymooners or small families wanting a full wildlife experience and sightseeing in South Africa’s hotspots as well as a tropical island relaxation. Although this itinerary is mostly for high-end travellers, it’s important to remember that the accommodation can be substituted to match most budgets.

Detailed itinerary

Nights 1-4: Cape Cadogan

The Georgian and Victorian building with its modern touch and stylish finishes makes Cape Cadogan Boutique Hotel a place of comfort and luxury. Tucked away just off the famous Kloof Street its location is ideal for browsing art galleries, antique dealers, bookstores, quaint cafes, funky clothing stores or chic décor shops as well as hip restaurants and bars.

The hotel offers 12 en-suite bedrooms, individually decorated with contemporary chic and bohemian influence. Enjoy a glass of South African wine in the comfortable lounge at the open fireplace or have a cocktail at the pool to cool off during those hot summer days. Breakfast is served in the elegant dining room and comes with a view of the pool and garden. You have the option to order a delicious dinner in house or head out to the many nearby restaurants and explore Cape Town’s nightlife.

Nights 5-7: Kirkman’s Camp

The Sabi Sand is arguably a safari experience like no other in the world. Sharing an unfenced boundary with the Kruger National Park, the reserve benefits from a great diversity of wildlife – although it is particularly well known for its prolific leopard sightings. Game drives traverse an area of 10 500 hectares (26 000 acres) and strict vehicle limits at sightings ensure the exclusivity of an up-close game viewing experience.

Enjoy spectacular views of the unspoiled landscape that surrounds the Sand River from each of the lodge’s 12 guest cottages. Here, old meets new; with antique-styled beds seamlessly blending with modern comforts and claw foot bathtubs, fireplaces and private verandas creating a warm and inviting ambience.

A library offers a sanctuary filled with interesting reads, while the classical sitting room provides the ultimate setting to enjoy a pre-dinner drink. Immersed in the bushscape is a rim-flow swimming pool with views of the Sand River. Delectable tea is served on the rolling lawn, and breakfast and lunch are served on shady verandas. Dinner is delightful affair, where mouth-watering Pan-African menus can be enjoyed in a boma or candlelit bush setting.

Unique handcrafted items are sold in the Safari Shop and a sala offers massages and beauty treatments. Our WILDChild programme is designed especially for children visiting our safari lodge and is filled with fun, interactive activities. Choose from a variety of exciting activities such as twice-daily game drives, interpretive bush and nature walks, photography lessons, birdwatching, star gazing, private and photographic safaris, and a game of tennis (complete with Pimms and strawberries).

Nights 8-11: Benguerra Island Lodge

The lodge lies sheltered within the canopy of an indigenous forest and swaying palm trees. The welcoming guest areas offer views of the lush tropical garden and the ocean beyond. Under the shade of straw covered wooden awnings, inviting comfortable loungers are set up around the lodge’s rim flow swimming pool. A colourfully decorated traditional wooden dhow has been converted into a picturesque beach bar, while the cool surrounds of the massage sala hold the promise of deep relaxation.

Benguerra Island Lodge boasts ten casinhas and two cabanas with perfect sea views and a light and airy colour scheme that combines tropical chic with a distinct African feel. The luxurious three-bedroom Casa Familia is ideal for families or groups and ensures privacy and exclusivity. Enjoy open air meals throughout the day at the lodge’s dhow-inspired bar or relax at the pool while soaking in the ocean views.

&Beyond Benguerra Island offers a variety of activities from horse-riding, sunset dhow cruises, island expeditions, local community tours, sea kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding, whale watching, diving, snorkelling and catch-and-release deep-sea fishing.
