Thonga Beach Lodge

This 24-bed luxury lodge is the ideal place to connect with one of Africa’s last pristine wilderness beaches. Here, guests can rediscover their place within nature while enjoying exceptional comfort. You can enjoy excellent cuisine either al fresco on the dining deck or on the beach deck, overlooking the sea. A comfortable lounge, offering books and board games, is the only area with Wi-Fi at this remote location. The lodge facilities are designed to enhance your experience, complementing the surrounding wilderness with modern comforts.

The beach deck sits just above the dunes, providing a perfect spot for ice-cold beverages on wooden loungers. From here, you can observe the seemingly endless sandy beach in front of you. A fully stocked bar serves delicious cocktails and specialty coffees throughout the day. Two swimming pools are available: one for leisure, one for SCUBA courses. Both feature umbrellas and cushioned loungers. Meals are enjoyed either outdoors on the dining deck or indoors, where a daily breakfast buffet awaits you.

Experience & Activities:

Snorkeling at Mabibi Beach: This site is one of South Africa’s best. Protected coral reefs host thousands of tropical fish. The lodge’s rockpool is home mostly to juvenile fish, though octopus, fire fish, moray eels, and electric rays are often spotted. Snorkeling occurs 400 meters south of the lodge and is tide-dependent, best at low tide. Guests can also snorkel on shallow reefs in the open ocean and enjoy SCUBA diving for added adventure.

SCUBA Diving: Reefs near the lodge are home to game fish, sharks, and bottlenose dolphins. All levels are welcome, and training is available at the lodge’s in-house PADI dive centre.

Other activities include fishing, sundowner excursions to Lake Sibaya, kayaking, and open ocean experiences, sometimes called “Ocean Safaris.”

Turtle Tracking: Seasonal turtle tours offer the privilege of observing mother turtles lay eggs on the shore. Tours run at night from November to February/March. This is an unforgettable wildlife experience.

For a slower pace, the lodge’s spa offers two indoor treatment rooms and a private outdoor area in the forest. Couple’s treatments provide a relaxing and intimate experience surrounded by nature.

Deluxe Ocean View Rooms: This secluded unit offers total privacy for a few fortunate guests. It features two bedrooms, en-suite bathrooms, a large deck, and a private plunge pool with ocean views. The main bedroom includes a king-size bed, bathtub, indoor and outdoor showers, double vanity, separate toilet, air conditioning, overhead fan, minibar, tea/coffee facilities, safe, and hair dryer.

Deluxe Ocean View Honeymoon Suite: The suite has an open-plan bedroom with king-size bed and ocean-view bathroom. Enjoy a private plunge pool on an elevated deck under a milkwood tree.
