Why we like it
- A wide vista of the entire crater.
- Great indoor lounge and dining area.
- Located in a much more private section of the crater.
- Authentic Maasai interactions with neighbouring communities.
Off the beaten track on the wilder side of the Crater, Entamanu is truly unique and offers and incredible Ngorongoro experience encompassing both cultural and wildlife aspects.
View on Google EarthEntamanu Ngorongoro is situated on the north western edge of the Ngorongoro Crater and has exceptional views both down into the Crater from one side, and out over the Serengeti from the other. This is the wilder side of the Crater and as such has a much more exclusive and remote feeling. Oh, and did we mention those views!!
The camp has seven elevated canvas rooms on wooden platforms, of which two are family rooms that consist of two bedrooms sharing a bathroom. Each room has indoor heating and en-suite bathrooms with hot and cold running water, and flush toilets. Due to the nature of the terrain and location it can get cold and windy at night, but every effort is made to create comfort for the changing conditions and the rooms are designed for this.
The main are a series of smaller rooms joined together on a wooden deck, each with a warm and cosy fireplace for when the weather turns as it does in these stunning volcanic highlands. Here meals are served in a communal dining table and hosted by the fantastic staff.
There’s a wide range of activities on offer and as such we recommend 2 or more nights to fully appreciate the camp. The main event being game drives on the Crater floor, where game viewing is regarded as some of the best in the world. The area directly around camp is perfect for exploring on foot along with the Maasai who call this area their home and a multitude of Maasai encounters are possible. We recommend going for a walking safari along with the Maasai warriors.
