Huntingdon, and indeed Satemwa Estate, evokes a romantic nostalgia for Malawi’s past. By African standards, 100 years of history is seldom found. Every tea field, tree and building on this estate shares a tale and you are invited to enjoy a glimpse of a bygone era in this rapidly changing continent.

Experience & Activities

Built in 1935 this was the original house of Maclean Kay the founder of Satemwa Tea Estates. It is now an exclusive lodge with five unique rooms. Care was taken to retain the unique character and history of the property while ensuring it satisfies the demands of even the most discerning traveller.

Huntingdon House and Chawani bungalow are on Satemwa; a working tea and coffee estate managed by the family. All meals are made by sourcing local fresh produce, including fresh milk and cream from the estate’s dairy herd and vegetables from the on-property organic garden. Each day, the wholesome menu changes to suite the weather and personal preferences of guests.
