Tsowa‘ means ‘new beginnings,’ which you will find on this pristine island in the middle of the mighty Zambezi River. A surreal place, set apart from the hectic world, the whispers of this majestic river are broken only by occasional calls of the African fish eagle. A soft path leads to a cluster of century-old baobabs in a camp fringed by a beautiful forest. This is the safari island Tsowa, sensitively situated within the Zambezi National Park.

Experience & Activities:

Camp Living Areas

At the centre of camp, a stylish lounge and dining area welcomes up to twelve guests. Adjacent to this space, the bar tent encourages relaxed social moments.

Beyond the main area, a spacious deck embraces the riverfront setting. At the same time, mature forest provides cooling shade.
An open-air dining area leads naturally to a sunken fire pit overlooking the river.

Meanwhile, the swimming pool sits in a sunny position near the main lodge. Here, guests unwind with a cold drink while the Zambezi flows past.

Safari & Exploration

Firstly, guided game drives and bush walks take place on the mainland. These activities explore the scenic Zambezi National Park.

Early morning game drives reveal this older, visually striking park. Drives last three to four hours and include a refreshment stop.
Before departure, guests enjoy a light breakfast at first light.

The park supports elephants, buffalo, lions, hyenas, giraffes, and many antelope species. Later in the day, sundowner cruises showcase spectacular river sunsets.

Island Walks & Water Activities

In contrast, guided island walks offer a slower pace. These walks highlight ancient baobab trees and exceptional birdlife.

For adventure seekers, guided rafting trips follow the Zambezi downstream. A picnic lunch adds to the experience.
Seasonal fishing is also available at an additional cost.

Birding & Fishing

Birdlife on the island remains abundant throughout the year. Notable sightings include Schalow’s turaco and African finfoot.
A breeding pair of Pel’s fishing owls frequents the area.

Throughout the day, African fish eagles call across the river. Their presence defines the wild character of the island.

Anglers enjoy excellent fishing opportunities on the Zambezi. The river hosts over seventy-five fish species. The iconic tiger fish remains the ultimate prize.

Accommodation:

Honeymoon Safari Tent: The Honeymoon Safari Tent occupies a prime, secluded position on the island. It is shaded by magnificent trees and set on a quiet spur. As a result, guests enjoy sweeping views downstream and across to the mainland. Here, wildlife often moves freely along the riverbanks. This tent is ideal for couples seeking privacy and romance.

Meru Safari Tents:  The Meru Safari Tents are spacious and airy in design. They are positioned along the island’s edge beneath a shaded forest canopy. Each tent features a small covered verandah on the river’s edge. From here, views extend directly across to the Zambezi National Park. Inside, tents include en-suite bathrooms with indoor showers. In addition, each tent offers a refreshing outdoor shower. Altogether, the accommodation blends comfort with an authentic island safari atmosphere.
