Without even knowing the term previously we at SAFARI FRANK have always created safaris where you naturally ‘social distance’. We have always advocated small, intimate bush camps in remote and off the beaten path safari destinations, far away from mass tourism and densely populated areas.

Think wide open grassy plains with no humans in sight, just pure nature unfolding before your eyes as you breathe in fresh air from a private open-sided game viewing vehicle. Add to this the new strict health and safety protocols set in place which ensure sanitisation of your vehicle before every drive, the use of masks and readily available hand sanitizer. The trip to your local grocer seems more daunting than Africa’s wilderness areas!

Spending longer allows you to get to know the area in more detail and explore further that previously possible. Not only that but it also limits your risk of exposure to COVID as you reduce the amount of travel throughout your itinerary. It’s the perfect time to ‘Travel slower, Stay longer’ and when you combine this with a private safari experience – you are setting yourself up for a stress free retreat in Africa’s wild places.

Cleanliness

Regardless of what type of trip travellers choose, health and sanitation will be a key consideration. The leading Tourism Bodies have already implemented protocols for all tourism stakeholders to adhere too. These typically cover the sanitisation of all vehicles (including all transfer vehicles, open game drive vehicles and coaches) together with protocols for drivers and guides to adhere to when with guests. The main protocols cover all touch points including check in, food handling and dining areas, as well as rooms and public areas. Many accommodation establishments already have their own protocols in place to ensure the health and safety of guests and their staff. Some of the leaders in protocol standards even go so far as so quarantine their staff for 14 days before they have access to guests and daily pre-work temperature screening for all staff, ensuring everyone within your ‘travel bubble’ is truly COVID-19 free during your stay.

Flexible Terms & Conditions

We are encouraged to see increased demand from international travellers, but we know their plans are at the mercy of ever-changing government advisories and airline changes due to COVID-19. To address this many of our partners have adopted incredibly flexible Terms & Conditions which cover later cancellations and last-minute postponements should your travel plans be cancelled due to a COVID-19 related issues such as – further lockdown, no flights, guest not allowed to board a flight, guest falls ill due to COVID-19 and unable to travel.

Please do note that these Terms & Conditions vary between each of our partner companies and we will strive to provide you with the most flexible options available and give you a clear breakdown of these terms prior to booking so you have peace of mind before parting with your money.

Flights

Given the uncertain nature of air travel at present, any flights should be booked with flexible fares be they international, regional or domestic. While we recognise that cheaper flight options will be available, we recommend that, when booking your flights directly you choose flexible fares from the outset. In doing so you will not only mitigate the risk associated with flights but will be provided greater flexibility should you wish to postpone or change your travel dates at any time.
