This safari comes in as one of Franks most highly recommended experiences. Taking place right at the end of Botswana’s rain season, you get to experience both the Kalahari and the Okavango Delta with few other tourists and in your own private mobile camps, with game drives, boating and on foot!

Itinerary in Brief

Starting off in the well-known Nxai Pan National Park, an area that is home to some desert specials, such as the Kalahari lion, springbok, Oryx and plenty of elephants! This time of the year, the area is also home to a large Zebra migration! Then, a drive back to Maun sees you boarding a small boat as you set off navigating the channels of the Okavango Delta, all the way to Chiefs Island, which will be your base for the next three nights as you walk and boat on this wildlife island paradise! From there you will boat back to Maun and drive to the Khwai Community Concession, an area with some of the best game viewing in the country, for another three-night mobile safari!

This 9-night wet season safari is well suited for medium to large sized groups seeking to experience Botswana as adventurous and authentic as possible in their own private camp, in the off season. The accommodation is simple but comfortable and you will find all the amenities one needs to be comfortable in this pristine wilderness. All campsites are private and in prime locations so one can expect to get the full Okavango and Kalahari experience.

With three very different landscapes, Frank believes this gives you a great exposure to many different animal’s species and habitat types allowing for a greater diversity of the overall experience.

Detailed Itinerary

1st, 2nd & 3rd Nights: Nxai Pan National Park Mobile Safari

In the North of the Nxai Pan National Park lies a large open and grassy pan system surrounded by a well wooded wall of trees around its rim. This grassy expanse along with the permanent man-made water hole attracts plenty of desert adapted herbivores, which in turn supports a healthy predator population which include the spotted hyena, lion, leopard and even cheetah. During the wet season this grassland is transformed into a grazing animal’s paradise and is then, home to a large population of Zebra which migrate from all over Botswana to its plains, making for an amazing wildlife spectacle.

Mobile safaris follow an old tried and tested formula that ‘takes everything along, but leaves nothing behind’. The safari crew uses a truck to ‘transport the camp’ and they will setup camp before you arrive. Accommodation is in the form of a private canvas setup, specifically for the safari and then moved to the next location by the mobile crew.

Guests can decide the level of luxury of the camp, but all will be in private tents (with proper beds) with on-suite bathroom, including a bucket shower (with hot water!) and basic toilet. The safaris are fully guided by the best local guides and guests travel in open game viewing vehicles between locations. The food is prepared by an experienced bush chef who prepares delicious meals on the open fire.

4th, 5th & 6th Nights: Wild Expeditions Safaris

This is a serious Okavango expedition safari! Led by one of Botswana’s most experienced guides and guide trainer, Okwa Sarefo. A good friend of Gesa and Frank, Okwa was born and raised in the Delta where he now follows his passion of sharing this water and wildlife paradise with guests from all over the world in his own authentic and personal way.

The expedition starts from Maun from where you boat into the Delta for a few hours (wildlife all the way!) until you are well and truly deep into its untouched wilderness. You will arrive in a pre-setup basic mobile camp where the friendly camp staff and chef will be catering to your needs over the next few nights. The accommodation is in the form of dome tents with proper beds, en-suite pitfall toilet and a bucket shower. All the creature comforts one needs out here in paradise.

This camp will be your base from where you will explore the surrounding area and nearby islands on foot in un-armed walking trips, by mokoro (traditional canoe) and also by boating. Combine these fantastic low impact activities with Okwa’s wealth of local knowledge and experience in the Delta creates what we think is the ultimate way to explore this wilderness!

7th, 8th & 9th Nights: Khwai Community Concession Mobile Safari

The Khwai concession is located on the eastern side of the Okavango Delta with the Khwai river forming the boundary between the Moremi Game Reserve and the concession. The area is home to some of the best game viewing as the herbivores from the drier surrounds are forced to come to the Khwai river in order to drink. This in turn supports large concentrations of predators especially leopards and if you are lucky, also Painted wolves.
