Thousands and thousands of wildebeest in fields of yellow flowers, an extremely unique and special sighting that most people don’t even know exists.

In the west lies Zambia’s largest National Park, Kafue – vast and largely untouched, the park covers an area as large as Wales. The area is also home to Liuwa Plain, a place famous for the annual migration of thousands of wildebeest who descend upon the region each year making for a spectacular sight. Here in the upper Zambezi region, those that like to ‘throw a line in’ can also take advantage of the remote fishing trips where they can catch Tiger Fish in waters that are pristine and untouched.

Upper Zambezi

The upper Zambezi is a great place for expedition style fishing trips, with a visit to the Barotse Floodplains and other nearby rivers yielding excellent results for those keen to catch Tiger Fish and other species. Various styles of fishing can be done in the area, including fly-fishing in the rapids, with the region’s private and uncharted waters offering intimate experiences for guests.

Liuwa Plain

In the far west lies the remote and wild Liuwa Plain National Park, an area which has been managed by African Parks since 2003. The large grassy plain is home to magnificent wildlife and an abundance of birdlife, and is famous for hosting the second largest wildebeest migration in the whole of Africa. The event which occurs around November each year consists of tens of thousands of wildebeest, as well as herds of zebra, tsessebe and lechwe. Following close behind them are the predators… lions and clans of up to 50 hyenas! It is a site to behold and one which is largely undiscovered by tourists.

Kafue

Kafue is the oldest and largest National Park in Zambia, as well as the second biggest in the world. Largely untouched by man, many areas are completely preserved and it boasts unique landscapes such as wetlands, woodlands, open plains and swampland, with accompanying diversity. This park embodies the remote wilderness and diversity that defines Zambia and it is considered one of the best places in Africa to see a leopard.
