Experience & Activities

Hwange was once the royal hunting ground of Ndebele kings and has long been known for its abundant and diverse wildlife. In particular, the park is known for herds of elephant and buffalo numbering in the hundreds. This is one of the best places to see lion, leopard, and African wild dog among the hundred or so other mammal and four hundred bird species.

Since The Hide is on its own private concession, a 5 km square area in Zimbabwe’s largest national park, the range of activities offered is extensive. Go walking in the bush with a guide, where guests will discover it’s less about the Big Five and more about making a personal connection. Drive at night after an unwinding sundowner and experience wild nocturnal activity which guets don’t typically get the chance to see elsewhere. Enjoy a sleep out at The Dove’s Nest, and of course, explore the waterhole hides, a photographer’s dream.

Children aged ten and older are welcomed (children of all ages are welcomed at Tom’s Little Hide and The Private Hide)

Accommodations

The Main Lodge – Deluxe Tents: The Hide features ten comfortable and spacious deluxe, family deluxe and honeymoon deluxe tents. The tents have a myriad of different configurations with indoor and/or outdoor bathtubs and showers. They are fan cooled for comfort in summer and have extra warm blankets and hot water bottles for the cool winter months. Each has a private veranda from where guests may be entertained by the comings and goings of a large variety of game at the waterhole.

Tom’s Little Hide – Exclusive Use House: The bedrooms are each individually decorated and furnished with solid Zimbabwean teak furniture. All the rooms are mosquito-proofed and have fans for warmer days.  Rooms 1 and 2, both double en suite bedrooms, form the main part of Tom’s Little Hide and can also accommodate one child in each on a roomy day bed.  The bedrooms are linked by a dining room and outside veranda, complete with sparkling splash pool.  Room 3 is more of a family tent with an outside bathroom and inter-leading children’s room, which can accommodate two children.  Altogether, up to 10 guests – 6 adults and 4 children – can stay at Tom’s Little Hide.

The Private Hide – Exclusive Use: When using The Private Hide, guests stay in The Hide’s tents – Tent 7, 6 and/or 5, depending on the numbers. Tents 7 and 6 are large deluxe or family tents, which can accommodate two adults and two children in full-size beds. Each room has its own en suite bathroom – indoor bath, inside and outdoor shower and hot water all day. All rooms are mosquito-proofed and have fans for comfort during the warmer months

The Dove’s Nest: The Dove’s Nest is built to accommodate two people and the spacious and comfortable bedroom is reached by a wooden stairway which has a closeable door and is protected by large canvas gauze windows. Your guide will arrive in the early morning and drive you back to camp for breakfast where we look forward to hearing about your adventurous night in the bush.
