Explore this area on twice daily walking safaris in search of the abundant wildlife in the area. Wild Expedition Safaris
Wild Expedition Safaris is one of the top locally owned and operated mobile tented safari operators in the Okavango Delta and surrounds. Specialising in walking and mokoro safaris in remote areas of the Delta, Wild Expeditions boasts some of the most experienced and highly regarded safari guides in the industry, to ensure a safe and unparalleled adventure in true wilderness. The importance of specialist walking safari guides cannot be overstated!
They also offer traditional vehicle based mobile safaris all over Botswana to compliment their walking and mokoro safaris.
The camp itself is very simple allowing for it to be easily mobile, but still boasts enough comfort to ensure you are fresh and ready for multiple days of safaris. Each 3x3m dome tent has an attached en-suite bathroom area which consists of a pitfall toilet and a bucket shower which is prepared by staff with warm water at any time of the day or night. The dome tents themselves have two stretchers with mattresses, clean linen, bath towels and an interior light. In front of the tent is a hand basin and a water jug which is typically used for brushing of teeth or freshening up.
Being a fully inclusive and serviced mobile camp there is a cool-box filled with a small but varied mix of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages alongside plenty of purified water. The meals are prepared by experienced bush chiefs whom never fails to impress with their ability to cook with little more than a campfire. The fantastic meals are enjoyed by the open-air dining table with pre and post diner drinks and stories being shared around the inviting campfire.
In areas where walking safaris are permitted, the combination of activities (walking, mokoro, or boating) does vary day by day, per trip and seasonally according to the flood levels. Activities are focused on finding wildlife. Time is often spent tracking members of the big 5 on foot whilst learning about the smaller intricacies of the bush along the way. This is not a typical short ‘bush walk’ around camp where guides avoid wildlife – this is a REAL wildlife based experience where lions, elephants and buffaloes are often encountered on foot. This is where the highly specialised guides shine!
In other areas where walking is not permitted, activities will be vehicle based, focussing on photography and observation of animal behaviour.
The daily activities typically consist of a longer morning activities and shorter afternoon activities according to temperature increases and guests comfort. Day trips can also be arranged along with a packed lunch to explore new areas. The use of mokoro’s does vary depending on the water levels, camps location and whether they are needed to access new walking areas. The key for a successful safari in the Okavango is allowing for flexibility around the activities.
