What is this safari about?
Mobile safaris are based on an old tried and tested formula to ‘take everything along, but leave nothing behind’. Each journey can be tailored for groups in terms of route, location, needs and interests and can be designed for small groups of between four to 15 people, over four to 14 nights depending on your schedule.
The safaris are fully guided by the best local guides and guests travel in open game viewing vehicles between locations. Chartered flights between some locations can also be arranged.
Accommodation is in private canvases setup specifically at each location for the safari. They are moved between locations by the mobile safari crew who use a truck to ‘transport’ the camp and setup before you arrive.
Guests can decide the level of luxury of the camp, but all will be in private tents (with proper beds) with ensuite bathroom, including a bucket shower (with hot water) and basic toilet.
Who can go?
- Small groups or families with a minimum of four guests, for at least four nights.
- For groups of less than four people or individual travellers, there are scheduled mobile safaris that can be joined.
- The minimum recommended age is 12 years old.
Where is this?
The safari moves between locations which can include Khwai, Okavango Delta, Savute or the Chobe riverfront. Tours to Central Kalahari or Nxai Pans can also be done. A minimum stay of two to three nights at one location is recommended.
What should I expect to pay?
Fully inclusive rates vary depending on the level of ‘luxury’ required. These start from USD $550 per person sharing and range up to USD $850 per person.
Over and above the fully serviced mobile safaris described above, there are also ‘participation mobile safaris’ where guests are expected to give a hand with ‘camp life’. Ablutions are also shared between guests and drinks are not included. The rate for these type of mobile safari are around USD 250 per person per night sharing.
What Extensions do you recommend?
The mobile safaris often start or end at Kasane which is close to Victoria Falls, allowing for a few days of pampering and the opportunity to experience the delights of the area.
Also a stay at a lodge is available and we recommend Meno-a-Kwena for a different experience to northern Botswana.
