Mana Pools

Located on the banks of the Zambezi River, Mana Pools is marked by four large permanent lakes left by the river as it flows into the flood plain. Abundant with greenery and big game the area covers over 2,000km2 of Zambezi riverfront vegetation, and a low surrounding human population has meant the animals are generally relaxed when approached on foot making this truly natural wilderness the only ‘wild walking’ National Park in Africa.

During the wet season, many animals retreat to the escarpment, however when things begin to dry up in April they begin to return. Zebra, impala, lions, and wild dogs can be seen in addition to large herds of buffaloes and elephants, with the area being well known for the bull elephants which regularly return each year. Familiar with the local guides, it is not uncommon for them to come close to walking groups making for an unforgettable experience if you’re lucky enough to see one of the park’s regulars! Its rich and diverse vegetation and river frontage also make it an excellent area for fishing, bird watching, canoeing and bush camping.
