Why we like it
- Best location of any lodge in the area.
- Superb setting along the river with frequent animal visitors.
- Great game viewing in the area with chances to see the tree climbing lions.
- Luxury tented rooms, all with river views.
Remote and wild, Ishasha Wilderness Camp is perfectly positioned between Kibale and Bwindi making it the natural choice for breaking up the long journey and enjoying the fantastic game viewing the area is famous for.
View on Google EarthIshasha Wilderness Camp is set along the riverine forest of the Ntungwe River in the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park. The camp itself is within the National Park and as such, has frequent visits from elephants, hippos and buffaloes and not to mention its resident vervet and black and white colobus monkeys. It truly is in the wilderness!
The camp has ten spacious canvas tented rooms which all have their own private veranda’s overlooking the stunning river. Each tent is well furnished with large mosquito-netted beds and all rooms also have a full en-suite containing a hot bush shower system and a flushing eco-friendly toilet. The main structure is a large thatched building containing a central lounge and dining area. Although, meals are often enjoyed under the stars should the weather be forgiving. No camp is complete without a fireplace where guests can enjoy a sundowner and share their experiences and Ishasha Wilderness is no exception.
The Ishasha sector is one of our favourite areas for game viewing in Uganda with plenty of wildlife to be found on game drives. The main wildlife attraction in the area is the chance to see the famous tree climbing lions. The staff also setup a fantastic bush breakfast out in the field on request and other activities include guided nature walks, birding, hot air ballooning and community project tours.
