Selous Impala Camp is situated on a wooded stretch of the stunning Rufiji River within the Selous Game Reserve. Simply, though stylishly designed, it offers varied safaris both on land and water

Selous Impala’s breezy lounge and dining area sits on a spacious wooden decking with spectacular views across the river, making it a wonderful place to watch game come down to the water to drink. Here’s a place to stretch out, put your feet up, and leaf through some of Impala’s wildlife and bird books, or just enjoy the view.

Walk a short way through the acacia woodland to your privately located tent on the river. Raised high up on decking, each of the six Meru-style tents has a veranda with two comfortable chairs and a table from where you can enjoy a lovely view of the Rufiji River and land beyond. In addition there are two family units each comprising of two en-suite tents sharing a single platform.

Selous Impala Camp’s tents are spacious with wooden floors, large and very comfortable beds with styled bedspreads and a writing desk. Much use is made of colourful, local fabrics to create a comfortable feel. Each tent is equipped with led lighting, ceiling fans, USB charging point for batteries/phones and a combination safe.

The food at Selous Impala Camp is beautifully presented with lunch and breakfast being served on large wooden platters in little coconut-shell dishes. Meals offered are a mix of international cuisine, ingredients are all fresh.

Fly camping is a great activity at Impala! Guests are provided with simple yet comfortable accommodation, great food and an authentic bush experience. Sometimes it is possible to arrive at the fly camp by boat, or by walking in from a not too distant drop-off point.

One of the most appreciated characteristics of the Selous is the “low traffic” of vehicle on its roads. Guests often experience hours travelling about the Reserve without seeing any other vehicles. In the busiest periods they may see a maximum of 3 or 4 other cars. Impala Camp offers as much as possible private game drives.

Boat safaris can be organized in the morning or in the afternoon, where experienced guides take you out to discover the secrets which lie in the waters of the Rufiji River. It is a unique experience to see the wildlife from a different point of view. Hippos and crocodiles, together with the hundreds of different species of colourful birds, will escort you while you quietly move on the waters of the enormous river or the beautiful lakes that form this incredible ecosystem.

The walking safaris are usually organized early in the morning or late in the afternoon, for coolness.
Morning walks usually finish with a full breakfast in the bush. An afternoon walk is also a special experience to be remembered as the fading light of the day gives a magical colour to the world in which you are silently and slowly moving through.

The fishing is excellent in the Selous. Impala Camp has at their disposal a river and lakes which are virtually untouched, be it by commercial or sport fishing, so the waters are full of fish, though they are regularly hunted by the resident crocodiles!

For bird lovers Selous Impala Camp also offer an activity focused on birds. Thanks to the unique environment, the Selous Game Reserve, is home to over 400 species of resident and migrant birds. The immediate area of the camp has over 100 species which can be viewed either by strolling around or by just relaxing on the veranda with a cold beer.
