Offering an intimate, uninterrupted bush experience, Siwandu is perfect for forgetting all the troubles of the modern world and immersing oneself in unspoilt nature, with just the right amount of bush luxury.

Sheltered in a grove of palms on the shores of Lake Nzerakera, part of the watery byways of the Rufiji River system, Siwandu is perfectly situated to experience fully the breath-taking landscape and abundant wildlife of Selous Game Reserve.

The Reserve is the largest in Africa, spanning 55,000km² and is four times larger than the Serengeti.  A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Selous’ riverine wilderness and diverse habitat creates the perfect environment for a wealth of animals and supports an extraordinary array of vegetation.  Due to the local topography around Siwandu, the location is considered the undisputed prime position for superlative game viewing.

Selous has over 2,100 species of plants, in excess of 400 varieties of birds, more than half of Tanzania’s elephant population and over 120,000 buffalos. The Reserve’s 40,000 hippo and 4,000 lion are probably the largest populations on the continent; not to mention the fact that it is home to the planet’s largest population of rare wild dogs. This resplendence gives guests a rare opportunity to glimpse all of these animals in truly unspoilt landscape.

Broadly spaced along the lakeshore, Siwandu’s superbly-appointed accommodation ensures maximum privacy and invites you to soak up the sights and sounds of Selous.

The 10 spacious octagonal tents of canvas and secure mosquito netting, topped in thatch, not only allows for constant air-flow, but also enables guests to gaze upon the animals as they saunter past.

Observe them, perhaps whilst reclining on the majestic king-sized bed under the overhead fan, or from the open-air stargazer, solar-heated showers which adjoin the en suite bathrooms.

The elevated lounge and dining area, offer panaromic views across the lake as you enjoy a drink from the well-stocked bar or sample the chef’s fine cuisine.

Perhaps you may wish to take a plunge in the shaded pool and recline on the sun lounger for the perfect “armchair safari”.

Accompanied by expert driver guides, travel in comfort in 4WD open-sided vehicles and venture into the Reserve to explore the rich African wildlife.

Walking safaris is a wonderful way to get close to nature and to learn about some of the smaller species and ecosystems in the reserve as well as the flora and fauna.

When the rains have fallen, boat cruises venture into the sinuous waterways of the Rufiji River delta, the largest in East Africa. For the rest of the year Siwandu guests enjoy Lake Nzerakera, either in sturdy metal boats with covered canopies, or on the glorious pontoon boat.
