A spectacular new exclusive camp in breathtaking landscapes, perfect for stargazers and photographers!
Sossus under Canvas is situated in the Greater Sossusvlei-Namib area close to the main entrance at Sesriem with its famous sand dunes. The camp is in the Neuhof Nature Reserve – an area that was formerly used for agricultural purposes, full of fences and degraded areas with hardly any wildlife left. It was transformed into a conservation area with successful reintroductions of giraffe, zebra and cheetah. Wildlife found within the reserve are leopard, cheetah, spotted hyena, bat-eared fox, both Burchell’s and Hartmann’s mountain zebra, giraffe, oryx, kudu, springbok, steenbok, and klipspringer. The owner has future plans to reintroduce black rhino into the area.
Guests sleep in one of eight Meru style tents with two of them being for family use. The tents are set in a naturally formed amphitheater in a granite outcrop, in the heart of the region, and blend perfectly into the environment. A stone wall on the east side of each tent protects against the strong winds that sometimes occur in this area. Each standard unit contains a double bed or twin beds, bedside tables and lighting, and plenty of storage space for your clothes and other belongings. The en-suite facilities comprise open-air flush toilet, washbasin, and classic bucket shower! Family tents benefit from all the features of the standard tents, in addition to a second bedroom for children.
The common area blends in perfectly with the surroundings consisting of a lounge area and a dining area where freshly prepared meals are served.
The camp offers a variety of exciting activities such as stargazing (the area has been named one of the seven best spots on earth to stargaze!), nature walks, game drives, hot air ballooning and helicopter or fixed-wing flights. For the more adventurous amongst you, sleep-outs are also available.
