Why we like it
- Award winning five-star eco paradise.
- Suitable for families, couples and honeymooners.
- One of the most pristine coral reefs in the world.
A tropical paradise located on the second largest island of the Bazaruto Archipelago, Benguerra Island Lodge offers a luxury island retreat with idyllic beaches and one of the most pristine coral reefs in the world just offshore.
Being declared a national park in 1971, Benguerra Island is home to 140 bird species and Africa’s last remaining population of dugong. It offers great snorkelling and scuba diving opportunities with a variety of colourful and exotic tropical fish.
The lodge lies sheltered within the canopy of an indigenous forest and swaying palm trees. The welcoming guest areas offer views of the lush tropical garden and the ocean beyond. Under the shade of straw covered wooden awnings, inviting comfortable loungers are set up around the lodge’s rim flow swimming pool. A colourfully decorated traditional wooden dhow has been converted into a picturesque beach bar, while the cool surrounds of the massage sala hold the promise of deep relaxation.
Benguerra Island Lodge boasts ten casinhas and two cabanas with perfect sea views and a light and airy colour scheme that combines tropical chic with a distinct African feel. The luxurious three-bedroom Casa Familia is ideal for families or groups and ensures privacy and exclusivity. Enjoy open air meals throughout the day at the lodge’s dhow-inspired bar or relax at the pool while soaking in the ocean views.
&Beyond Benguerra Island offers a variety of activities from horse-riding, sunset dhow cruises, island expeditions, local community tours, sea kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding, whale watching, diving, snorkelling and catch-and-release deep-sea fishing. Catamaran cruises, a scenic helicopter flight and Spa treatments are on offer at additional charge.
