Chongwe River House is award-winning safari design at its finest. This stunning two storey, four bedroom private house is set on a tranquil stretch of the Chongwe River against a beautiful mountainous backdrop. The Chongwe area is famous for large elephants, and they will frequently wander through camp in search of seed pods from the winterthorn trees or cross the river right in front of the house.

Chongwe House rests on a peaceful stretch of the Chongwe River, set against a beautiful mountainous backdrop. A two-storey, four-bedroom, four-bathroom private house, its design blends effortlessly into the undulating landscape around it, with river pebble accents and furniture carved from a fallen winterthorn tree.

Chongwe house sleeps four to eight people and features private open-air bathtubs and waterfall showers, a large pool, and spacious indoor and outdoor lounges and dining areas perfect for spending time together.

Listen to fish eagle calls and the faint sound of a resident family of warthogs ‘mowing’ the grass outside. Watch elephants wade across the river right in front of the house. Savour fine dining in the wild, featuring local and seasonal ingredients.

Despite the remote and tranquil setting, the culinary team create extraordinary meals that satisfy the soul and delight the palette. Designed to celebrate local ingredients, expect dishes such as perfectly grilled meats, handmade paste and fresh salads made with seasonal fruits and vegetables.

Game drives, walking safaris, canoeing safaris, boat cruises and tiger fishing are all on offer in Lower Zambezi National Park. Throughout your stay, a private, dedicated staff and guiding team will look after your every need and ensure you make the most of this haven for lions, leopards, wild dog, 370 species of birds and more. The nearby wildlife hide is great for photography, and for spotting rare nocturnal creatures.
