This is one of those packages that we cannot recommend highly enough. Spend a full 8 nights for the price of 6 in two of best owner-run safari camps in Zambia. This represents exceptional value for money and a top-notch safari experience!
The Authentic Zambia Safari takes you to both Kafue National Park and Lower Zambezi National Park, the order of which can be swapped around. We would recommend starting with Kafue, where a road transfer or charter flight from Lusaka will have you arriving to this remote camp location. Spend 4 nights in Kafue exploring the area by either game drives (day and night) walking safaris or by boat along the Kafue river – which is exceptional for birding and also predator viewing in the peak of the dry season. Fishing is also available along the river for keen anglers. Then after an incredible time in Kafue, a direct charter flight from to Lower Zambezi has you arriving in a quitter section of this incredible national park. You will be spending your time with Tusk & Mane Safaris, staying 4 nights between both of their tented fly-camps (2 nights each) located in two different, breathtaking locations along the Zambezi river. From these strategically located camps you have the option of game drives (day and night), walking safaris, boating, fishing and canoeing safaris!
One of the highest quality safari experiences available in Zambia – with top-notch guiding, plenty of activities to choose from, authentic tented accommodation and remote wildlife rich habitats. It doesn’t get much better than this!
If you have more time, add a few nights at Ntemwa Busanga Camp to experience the predator rich Busanga Plains after Musekese Camp.
Detailed itinerary
1-4 Nights: Musekese Camp
This intimate camp is set under the canopy of huge riverine trees right on the edge of a dambo which acts like a magnet for the regions wildlife. It is here that the resident lion pride lies in wait for their antelope prey, making for great game viewing. It is however a very vast area with plenty of water, so animal movements are unpredictable, and it is up to the excellent guides to work for the wildlife sightings as opposed to having them on a silver platter. This in-turn allows for them to shine in their ability to bring even the most seemingly insignificant aspect of the bush to life with their indepth interpretations of the natural world.
The diversity of activities is one of the main draw cards of Musekese with the options of game drives and walking safaris as land based, with boating and fishing safaris along the Kafue river as the water based options. Day trips up to the renowned Busanga plains are also possible upon special request.
5-8 Nights: Tusk & Mane
Tusk & Mane consists of two fly camps (Kutali & Chula) which are situated in different habitats to give you the full Lower Zambezi experience. The camps are simple with old style luxury camping, under the stars and around the campfire. The key is the difference between both Kutali & Chula Camp in terms of atmosphere and location. The magic lies in the combination. Chula Camp is only accessible by boat, this gives it a wild and remote atmosphere and feeling. This little camp is set back from the main river amongst thick natal mahogany trees overlooking a lagoon and the main river. The focus is on walking and river activities here. Kutali Island is a classic Lower Zambezi valley location set amongst Elephants in a thick winter thorn forest directly on the banks of the main river. Access is an adventurous drive through 3 river channels and all activities are offered at Kutali Camp. We recommend that you stay at least 4 nights to experience both fly camps.
Each camp consists of only 5 tents (stand-up height) which will have single comfortable beds with top quality linen provided (can be joined to form doubles on request), en-suite bathrooms with hot hanging bucket showers, flushing toilets and a washbasin with a mirror.
The canvas can be left open at night (spectacular views) but can also be dropped down if it is cold or for privacy reasons. These are raised during the day to allow for good airflow if it’s hot as well as the fact that you are able to view the Zambezi from your bed.
Two activities are offered per day and can be organised at the time according to guests’ preferences. Game drives in open-topped 4WD land cruisers are a fantastic way to see the park, a walking safari with a quality, qualified guide and armed Wildlife Police Officer is a MUST DO here. On the water, there are boat trips to explore the Zambezi, getting up close to relaxing hippos and crocodiles sunning on the banks and an impressive array of birds. It’s also perfect for photographing elephants up-close feeding on the edge, swimming or crossing the Zambezi.
