Detailed itinerary
Days 1-4 Flatdogs Camp:
Flatdogs Camp is located right at the main entrance gate to the South Luangwa National Park. From here they are strategically positioned to be some of the first vehicles to enter the park in the early mornings.
Offering quality accommodation rivalling neighbouring lodges at an affordable rate is something that Flatdogs Camp prides itself in. The camp has accommodation in the form of Safari Tents, Chalets, the Crocodile Nest and the Jackalberry Tree house.
The Safari Tents are spacious enough for full-sized beds, hanging rack for clothes, bedside tables and lamps. A door leads into a shaded open-air bathroom with hot shower, flush toilet and basin. The luxury tents also have mosquito nets and electric fans as well as fully gauzed windows. One of the six river-front tents is our family tent which has a double bed and two single beds, and one large en-suite bathroom, comfortably sleeping four people.
The Chalet rooms are made of stone and are designed to keep you cool. The six regular Chalet rooms are found in three separate buildings: each chalet building has a downstairs double room with en-suite bathroom and an upstairs twin/triple room with their own bathroom, just downstairs from the bedroom. The two rooms in each building are completely separate with their own facilities, but can be joined through the small kitchen area if a family or group of friends want to book both rooms. Both rooms have their own downstairs gauzed-in verandah sitting area.
Days 4-8 Luambe Camp:
Luambe National Park offers a Luangwa Valley experience reminiscent of the early days in the Valley, remote and wild! Luambe Camp is the only accommodation in the entire park, so you can be assured that you will have wildlife sightings all to yourself.
The camp is located on the banks of the Luangwa river above a pool which is the perennial home to hundreds of hippos. This makes Luambe camp one of the best places in the valley for hippo viewing!
Accommodation at Luambe Camp is in en-suite safari tents all of which enjoy a spectacular location beneath the trees on the banks of the Luangwa River.
Varied wildlife activities are on offer, including waking up early morning and walking straight out of camp for a walking safari along the river, just an awesome experience! Delicious, home-cooked food is served under thatch, or on the moonlit riverbank, and there’s a delightful campfire to retire to after dinner.
