Situated in a wide, open valley framed by the Nubib, Tsaris, and Naukluft Mountains, Desert Homestead Lodge looks out toward the distant red dunes of the Namib Desert. Because of its elevated position, this breathtaking setting creates a sense of space, silence, and immersion in one of the world’s most ancient landscapes.

Moreover, the architecture draws inspiration from a historic stud farm, incorporating natural materials and contemporary desert design. Thatched chalets, soft tones, and shaded verandas blend effortlessly into the surrounding plains. In addition, the lodge forms part of the Namib Tsaris Conservancy — a private reserve spanning more than 140,000 hectares and bordering the NamibRand Nature Reserve — making it one of the most scenic stretches of desert in Namibia.

Guests can explore Sossusvlei with an expert guide, venture out on horseback across endless plains, or simply unwind beside one of the lodge’s pools. Experiences & Activities:

Namib Sleep-Out Ride: A signature experience for adventurous travellers. Ride through sweeping plains, riverbeds, and rocky trails before arriving at a rustic tented camp for a night under the Namibian stars. Enjoy a fireside dinner, breathtaking views, and sunrise coffee before continuing your journey on horseback the next morning. Options range from one to five stages, suitable for both beginners and experienced riders.

Sossusvlei Excursion: Explore the world-famous dunes of Sossusvlei and Deadvlei in a guided 4×4. Depart early to capture sunrise colours on the dunes, or join an afternoon excursion for a quieter, more private experience. Includes park entry fees, water, a knowledgeable guide, and a picnic in the dunes.

Sundowner Drive (Witwater Reserve): A relaxing 2–2.5 hour drive through the 7,000-hectare Witwater Reserve. Watch wildlife on the plains, enjoy panoramic views, and raise a glass as the sun melts into the desert horizon.

Other Activities: The team can arrange scenic flights, hot-air ballooning, quad biking, and more. Full activity briefings are provided during dinner, and check-in before 2 p.m. is required for same-day afternoon excursions.

Desert Homestead Lodge offers 27 thatched chalets and one family unit, each designed to harmonise with the desert surroundings. Chalets feature private shaded terraces, tea and coffee facilities, mosquito nets, air-conditioning (solar-powered), ensuite bathrooms, and 24-hour electricity.
