Why we like it
- Only five chalets thus lots of privacy – the perfect place to relax.
- Breathtaking views over the holy plains of Onjuva.
- Located in the Orupembe Conservancy, which supports the local community.
- Very authentic camp operated by local Himba.
- Very remote area of northern Namibia for the serious adventurer!
Namibia’s first Himba co-owned camp with phenomenal vistas over Kaokoveld.
Etambura Camp lays in the Orupembe Conservancy on a hill over the holy plains of Onjuva, an area which is sacred to the semi-nomadic Himba herders, who live here. The Camp is Namibia’s first Himba co-owned property and a very unique place.
The camp’s five canvas and thatch chalets are scattered along the hilltop and seem to be floating over Kaokoveld. Each chalet has a private deck extending from the hill offering unimpeded views over the breathtaking scenery. The rooms have a modern design, which is combined with many traditional Himba elements. The recreational area is naturally integrated into the hill-top skyline and has a circular deck overlooking the holy plains, a spacious dining area and a lounge.
On game drives in the Orupembe Conservancy guests might get to see black rhino and can explore the many endemic species of plants and shrubs on a walk along the hill. The secluded location makes Etambura Camp the perfect place to relax and to appreciate the distant sounds of bird life and the rustle of trees. What completes this special atmosphere is the personal and attentive service of the local Himba.
