Why we like it
- Charming, classic wilderness-style camp on a 30,000-hectare private reserve with convenient access into Etosha National Park.
- Productive waterhole in front of camp with multitudes coming to drink.
- High densities of big game including lion, white and black rhino, as well as plains game.
- Comfortable accommodation offering a combination of private game sightings and an authentic Etosha experience.
Immersed in the Mopani bush the camp is a natural extension of this wild, wonderful landscape.
Tucked in a hidden valley at the foot of a dolomite hill lays Ongava Game Reserve. The 30,000-hectare private reserve borders Etosha National Park and enables convenient access into the National Park. Ongava Tented Camp is immersed in the African Mopani bush and provides exclusivity and luxury yet maintaining a private camp feel.
The exclusive camp consists of eight large comfortable Meru-style tents built on raised wooden decks. All rooms are equipped with en-suite facilities, open air showers and private verandas. The tents have views over the camps much-frequented waterhole and are naturally integrated into the surrounding mopane bushveld.
The main area, built of stone, canvas and thatch offers a lounge area, a bar and the dining room. On hot days the swimming pool offers a welcome refreshment and the fire pit invites to share stories under Namibia’s night skies. The whole main area is facing towards the floodlit waterhole, to fully experience the visiting wildlife.
Ongava’s proximity to Etosha allows for game drives in the Etosha National Park and on the Ongava Reserve itself. Guests can experience Etosha‘s impressive white salt pan and get up close with its healthy population of predators such as lion, cheetah and leopard, as well as different herbivore species such as kudu, giraffe, eland, oryx and zebra. Other possibilities include guided walks, birding and visiting hides. Ongava holds one of the largest rhino custodianships in the country for the Namibian government and is one of the few private game reserves in southern Africa where guests can see both black and white rhino.
