Schoone Oordt Country House is a charming country hotel in Swellendam. Only two hours from Cape Town and a few hours’ drive from Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, with 11 luxury bedrooms, lush gardens, a great cuisine and attention to detail, this establishment is an ideal stopover along the Garden Route.
The Country House has eight luxury rooms, a private family cottage, a secluded honeymoon suite and a spacious family suite. The grand old Manor House is set apart from the guest rooms and surrounded by flourishing gardens with fountains and a saltwater swimming pool. Within the revamped mansion, there’s a bar and lounge with a fireplace, a country-style kitchen, and the Conservatory restaurant, which serves hearty breakfasts, afternoon tea, and dinners paired with locally sourced vintage wines. The warmth of the original wooden floors, ceilings and doors coupled with many quirky antique pieces creates a wonderful welcoming ambience.
There are eight Luxury Rooms, with private patios overlooking a rose garden. Each has a king-size or twin bed, en-suite bathroom with oversized showers, a fireplace, air conditioning, underfloor heating, uncapped wireless internet, a minibar, tea and coffee facilities, DStv and a DVD player.
A Family Cottage, with its own private spot on the property, that sleeps four guests, with a king-size bed for parents, and a Family Suite that sleeps six people. It also has a small kitchenette with a microwave and toaster.
The secluded Honeymoon Suite is set beside a river on the edge of a forest, with a carved-wood four-poster bed, a spacious bathroom and a large fireplace.
The Swellendam area offers an abundance of activities like: Hiking trails, horse riding, mountain biking as well as visits to nearby Nature Reserves. Along with quaint coffee shops, the renowned Drostdy museum, berry & lavender-picking, good restaurants, and a feast of art.
