Tswalu is located in South Africa’s largest private game reserve, now protecting over 110,000 hectares of spectacular grasslands and mountains. A truly spectacular and vast wilderness!

Accommodating no more than 24 guests at a time, guests can discover the beauty of this arid savannah, its diverse wildlife and the serenity of this land. Motse means ‘village’ in Tswana lies at the foot of the Korannaberg mountains facing westwards across the grasslands of the Kalahari.

The ‘village’ consists of just nine secluded “legae” (Tswana for “little house”).

each with their own private deck and open fireplace. Three of these suites can accommodate two adults and two children in two separate bedrooms, making Tswalu perfect for families. The suites are built of desert sand, local stone, rich red clay and traditional Kalahari thatch to blend perfectly with the environment.  Watch a variety of wildlife from your private sun deck, as they meander down to The Motse waterhole.

The main house is a spectacular space to relax and mingle with other guests, with its elevated decks and elegant lounges. The infinity pool offers endless views over the Africa savannahs, and for total relaxation there is the Sanctuary Spa & Gym.  Also the walk-in wine cellar stocked with fine South African wine and a library with satellite TV.

The lodge has a maximum of ten private vehicles which traverse over 110,000 hectares, which offer extreme exclusivity to explore the vast pristine wilderness. Game drives are tailor-made to suite guest interests and no set routine or time here, guests determine their own adventure from the time they arrive.

Explore on foot with a guided bush walks, touch the unique vegetation, learn about each plant’s extraordinary properties, inspect nests and burrows, and examine the smallest insect. Also discover many rare and endangered species such as the aardvark and pangolin. Night drives give you the chance of exceptional sightings such as aardvark, aardwolf, porcupine, or brown hyena. The famous Kalahari black-maned lions are sure to impress!

Another great option is a horseback safari. Tswalu’s horses accommodate riders of all abilities and levels of experience. Children are welcome on horseback too and Tswalu’s expert staff can also create an entire day’s activity at the stables for them. On horseback, the vastness of the Kalahari strikes you even more deeply and many of the animals react differently to your presence.

Overall one of the most memorable safaris you can do anywhere in Africa!
