Situated fairly deeply in the National Park itself, this lodge is the gateway to watching a truly incredible wildlife spectacle – the annual bat migration where some 10 million Straw-coloured fruit bats roost in one small section of the forest within the park.

The lodge is situated right on the edge of a large lake which has particularly impressive birding and has some resident Sitatunga antelope (impressive!). The main area and all rooms are facing onto the river allowing for great views.

The lodge itself is fairly basic and not all too fantastic, yet still comfortable. Simply put – you come here for the bat migration, not for the lodges appeal or luxuries.

The main area is where meals are served and one can also find the bar. Down below is a communal fireplace where drinks are enjoyed in the evenings. The lodge has a total of 7 chalets where 4 are larger and contain a verandah, simple shower, double or single beds and an en-suite with flushing toilets. The other 3 are smaller chalets with double or single beds, en-suite flushing toilet and bucket showers.

The lodge gives access to the very impressive annual bat migration where millions of bats meet in one small patch of the forest every year between October and December. It is an overwhelming sight that can only be appreciated first hand! There are a number of exclusive bat hides that put you right in all the action and are very much worth the climb!
