Just a few hours’ drive from Cape Town lies South Africa’s world-famous Garden Route. Featuring a wonderful mix of beautiful seaside towns, wide beaches, rolling mountain ranges dotted by forests and valleys, makes the Garden Route one of the most picturesque routes in South Africa. This malaria free region proves itself to be a favourite for family holidays, outdoor enthusiast and is the ideal route for a self-drive holiday due to its short distances. The Garden Route can be easily accessed from the airports in Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, and George.

Stretching from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth, the Garden Route offers a wide range of numerous attractions. From beautiful blue-flagged beaches ideal for surfing, idyllic coastal towns like Plettenberg Bay and Knysna, to indigenous forests like the Tsitsikamma, which is ideal for walks or an exciting canopy walk. Visitors can enjoy themselves doing water sports, hikes or even extreme sports such as bungee jumping from the one of the world’s highest bungee jump. This gorgeous part in the southern Cape of South Africa is named after the Garden Route National Park. It’s diverse vegetation and wildlife, abundance of lagoons, lakes, mountains, forests, and beaches along its winding roads, combine the fun of a classic seaside holiday with unforgettable African adventures.

Accommodation along the Garden Route is both plentiful and varied – choose from campsites and self-catering options to five-star hotels. You can expect warm hospitality, great food and even better views.

Not officially part of the Garden Route and located more inland, it is worth to include a stop-over and explore Oudtshoorn, a quaint town in the Little Karoo between the Swartberg and Outeniqua mountains. Visit the incredible Cango Caves, Africa’s largest show cave system, and geological formations as well as some of the world’s biggest Ostrich farms.
