Safari Rating
This is a lodge-based safari in Botswana’s Okavango Delta that doesn’t come with a heavy price tag! Experience the true essence of the Okavango in two different prime game viewing regions.
Itinerary in Brief
3 Nights Sango Safari Camp
2 Nights Oddballs Camp
Finally, a lodge-based safari in the Okavango that comes at an affordable price! Not only will the price be great, but the lodges are located in prime wildlife regions, so the game viewing is just as good!
The safari starts from Maun where you can either opt for a road transfer or a short charter flight. We recommend the charter as it saves time and provides a great birds eye view of the area! Arriving at your first camp, you will spend 3 nights in the Khwai area. This region is regarded as one of the most productive wildlife areas surrounding the Okavango and being a community concession, it allows for off-road driving and night driving! After 3 nights of incredible wildlife viewing a charter flight will take you to your second camp which is set much deeper into the centre of the Okavango Delta. Arrive at a small bush airstrip on a seasonal island of the Delta, set right on the edge of Moremi Game Reserve and chiefs island. Spend 2 nights here exploring this classic Okavango habitat on non-motorised activities, including walking and mokoro safaris, often in combination! Heading out in small groups with locals who were born and raised in the region you will learn all about nature big and small on these authentic and immersive activities. This section of the Delta is home to all members of the Big 5, although because you are conducting mokoro and walking safaris, game viewing isn’t as productive as the first camp where you are able to cover more ground by vehicle. After 2 nights in paradise, a final charter will take you back to Maun for onward connections.
This Affordable Okavango Delta Safari is aimed at those whom want to experience the Okavango Delta at affordable rates whilst staying in permanent camps. It will expose you to incredible game viewing and a classic mix of activities that the Okavango is known for.
Detailed Itinerary
Nights 1-3: Sango Safari Camp
The camp itself consists of only 6 authentic and classic safari tents. Each are spacious meru style tents which have flushing toilets and en-suite bucket showers. They all overlook the Khwai river and access to each tentis via a small natural pathway. For safety you are escorted to your tents at night by the friendly staff.
Sango, being located on a concession, offers a wider range of activities than National Park based camps. It offers both day and night drives, Moremi day trips, walking and mokoro safaris. The wildlife viewing in Khwai is some of the best in the country, but it is important to note that because of its incredible wildlife, Khwai can become very popular and sightings are often shared.
We would recommend this camp for travellers seeking to save costs whilst travelling Botswana or those who are unsure of Mobile Safaris. We would however recommend being escorted by a private guide to enhance the guided experience.
Nights 4 & 5: Oddballs Camp
A simplistic and comfortable bush camp, consisting of 15 dome tents set on elevated wooden decks each with their own bush en-suite. The main lodge is built into the treeline, seamlessly blending with the natural setting. The overall structure is open offering views from wherever you are positioned, this camp is all about the wildlife experience! The viewing deck and fire pit are always a popular spot to relax and share stories of the day’s adventures.
The activities on offer are one of the main attractions of Oddballs, walking and mokoro (wooden dugout canoe) safaris with a local guide will offer a rare and life changing experience as you venture deep into the Delta and into the African wilderness. Picnics and overnight expeditions can also be arranged.
