Avoid the overnight stopover in Johannesburg by rather spending a few nights in Cape Town prior to your safari! With many international airlines flying directly to Cape Town and then a direct flight from Cape Town to Maun, it’s a wonder why this isn’t everyone’s route when going safari in Botswana!
This start starts with 4 nights in a prime location in Cape Town. From here you are within walking distance of fabulous restaurants and the cities attractions, so you can explore like a local. Or you can organize one of the popular excursions exploring the region such as a visit to the Cape of Good Hope, a Winelands tour, summit Table Mountain and much much more! Or simply spend your time relaxing and recovering from the jetlag so you can make the most of your upcoming safari. It’s best to stay flexible with you time in Cape Town so you can make the most of the weather and the season you visit. After those first nights, catch a direct flight to Maun, Botswana, then another short charter flight to your first safari lodge set in the famous Savuti region. Spend 2 nights here, going on game drives in search of the predators which made this area famous in the many documentaries that were filmed here. The area has a mix of oven grassland, woodland and rocky outcrops providing a mix of habitats and thus a higher density of wildlife. After Savuti another charter flight will take you to the Moremi Game Reserve in the Okavango Delta. Spend 2 nights in the Moremi in an incredible productive wildlife area as you go out on game drives and boat cruises to find the resident wildlife. The area around the camp is also known for its leopard and wild dog populations among the other incredible mammals and birdlife. Then, after Moremi, it’s off to your last camp which is set in a more remote section of the Okavango. Here you’ll now be outside of the National reserves and inside a private concession – meaning that you have a greater selection of activities available to you; including walking safaris, mokoro trips (traditional canoe) and night drives. This will be the perfect ending to what must have already been an incredible safari in some of the best wildlife areas of Northern Botswana.

Detailed itinerary
Nights 1-4: Four Rosemead Boutique Guest House
Four Rosmead Boutique Guest House is a short walking distance from a variety of cafes and restaurants on Kloof Street and Long Street, as well as a short drive away from Cape Town’s main attractions like the V&A Waterfront, Table Mountain and the city beaches. Built in 1903, this stylish Guest House has been remodelled and offers Cape contemporary charm with a selection of original South African artworks. It has a saltwater swimming pool, lush gardens and boasts great views of Table Mountain and Lion’s Head.
The 10 en-suite bedrooms have extra length King or Twin beds with air-conditioning, in-door entertainment such as TV and speaker system and complimentary Wi-fi. Some rooms have a private garden, balcony or courtyard. The age restriction for children is 12 years and all the rooms can accommodate a maximum of 2 guests.
Nights 5 & 6: Savute Safari Lodge
The lodge can accommodation a maximum of twenty-four guests in eleven comfortable thatched chalets, of which one is a family unit. They are all on raised platforms overlooking the Savuti Channel and contain a joint bedroom and lounge area as well as an en-suite bathroom with hot shower.
The main communal area also boasts views onto the channel, where you will find the lounge, bar, dinning area’s and a fireplace. One of the big attractions to this lodge is its swimming pool as the hotter months of the year can be extreme in Savuti with temperatures well above the 40’s Celsius.
The lodge, being located within the Chobe National Park is restricted to game drives only as the activity, with drives also having to conclude prior to the night.
Nights 7 & 8: Camp Moremi
All standard tents are expansive with spacious bathrooms consisting of double vanities and showers, and private decks offering views over the Moremi Game Reserve. Subtle décor and lighting fixtures allow for a natural and warm atmosphere within each room to create a peaceful and harmonious blend with the surrounding environment.
Camp Moremi’s communal areas include a sunken bar, masterfully built around a large termite mound and ebony tree, an expansive lounge area with a beautiful brass and soft finishes, leading towards an extended library and private deck. These areas, including the elevated dining area, connects by boardwalk to the fireplace in front of the camp. In addition, an open-air boma and secluded swimming pool complement the public area facilities.
Guest activities include a choice of morning and afternoon game drives throughout the many different ecosystems that the Moremi Game Reserve has to offer or the possibility to explore the Xakanaxa Lagoon and its surrounding channels by boat. This blend of activities allows for access to incredible landscapes, impressive wildlife as well as the opportunity to enjoy the picturesque waters of the Okavango Delta.
Nights 9 & 10: Xugana Island Lodge
Xugana Lagoon is widely recognised as the most spectacular permanent water site in the entire Okavango Delta, which itself is Africa’s largest and most awe-inspiring oasis. The Okavango River rises in the highlands of Angola yet never reaches the sea; instead its immense waters empty over the sands of the Kalahari, where the great thirst of the desert is quenched in a wilderness of freshwater lagoons, channels and islands.
Xugana Island Lodge is situated on a private concession and takes full advantage of this magnificent site. An expansive deck and al fresco dining area overlooks the vast, pristine body of water that makes up the permanent Okavango Delta.
ugana Island Lodge is in a private concession offering a range of activities giving you the chance to experience a true Okavango Delta safari. All activities are conducted by experienced professional guides. Explore the crystal-clear waterways by mokoro (traditional dugout canoe) or motorboat for the chance to enjoy the magnificent variety of bird, plant and reptile species found in the area.
Your experienced guide will also take you on a guided nature walk on surrounding islands in the concession, giving you the chance to experience nature up close and personal. Day and night game drives are also available within the private concession for a chance to search for the prolific wildlife found in the area.
