Why we like it

- Overlooking the large, hippo-frequented Maxa Lagoon
- Exploration-style land and water activities
- Dining under starlit African skies
What makes Maxa truly special is its setting beneath a canopy of towering Ebony trees, where the camp overlooks the hippo-filled Maxa Lagoon. Here, the rhythm of the wilderness unfolds all around you – from the grunts of hippos in the water to the rustling of leaves overhead. Maxa is designed for exploration, offering a blend of land and water-based adventures, from mokoro excursions and walking safaris to cultural encounters that reveal the richness of the Kaza Transfrontier Park. It’s a place where seclusion, discovery, and authenticity meet.
Located within the vast Kaza Transfrontier Park, Maxa sits among diverse floodplains, rich ecosystems, and ever-changing seasonal landscapes. Therefore, it is the perfect place for exploration, adventure, and full immersion in nature’s rhythms. The camp embodies a philosophy of learning and freedom, expressed through its unique, open design and creative details. Here, a freeform lounge and dining area stretch beneath canvas roofs, blending openness with comfort. Meanwhile, traditional clay walls partly enclose the space, adding warmth and texture to the design. In addition, handmade local furniture brings artistry and creativity, enhancing the atmosphere with thoughtful decor and lighting.
Between the lounge and dining areas, a sandy courtyard welcomes guests with picnic-style tables. Here, al fresco meals are enjoyed beneath brilliant, starlit skies. At the heart of the main area stands a striking termite mound centerpiece. From nearby, guests breathe in the aroma of freshly baked bread and muffins from the wood-fired oven. Beyond, the riverine forest borders the lagoon, sheltering quiet, shaded corners. Clusters of towering Ebony trees encircle a secluded sala with a comfortable day bed. Finally, an elevated deck with a hammock bed, draped in cushions, overlooks the lagoon’s tranquil waters.
