Perched in the picturesque swamps of the northern Okavango, Kala Camp invites guests to immerse themselves in a timeless safari adventure. Opened in May 2022, this intimate camp, featuring just six tastefully furnished tents, offers a serene retreat where guests can experience the magic of the Okavango Delta. From the camp, guests can embark on boating and Mekoro rides, explore nearby islands on foot, and witness the incredible wildlife that calls this unique ecosystem home. As the seasons change, so does the landscape, with floodplains attracting large herds of buffalo and elephants, accompanied by prowling lions. Bird enthusiasts will also delight in the diverse and plentiful avian species that inhabit the area. Kala Camp is not just a place to stay; it’s a gateway to the enchanting world of the Okavango Delta.
Experience & Activities:
From May to October, the area around Kala Camp transforms into a watery paradise, perfect for boating and Mekoro rides that launch directly from the camp. During these months, long walks on the nearby islands offer a unique way to explore the lush surroundings. As the floodwaters recede between October and May, the landscape shifts to reveal expansive floodplains teeming with wildlife, including large herds of buffalo and elephants. This seasonal change brings predators like lions into the vicinity, offering thrilling game viewing opportunities. Birding is exceptional year-round, with a wide variety of species populating the area. Activities at Kala Camp include guided walking safaris, game drives, and traditional Mokoro rides, ensuring that every guest can connect with the wilderness in their own way.
Accommodations:
Kala Camp accommodates up to 14 guests in 7 light, airy, and spacious traditional tents. Each tent is thoughtfully designed with comfort in mind, featuring extra-length beds, super-sized mosquito nets, desks, seating areas, fans, lights, and convenient plug points. The en-suite bathrooms are equipped with showers, wash basins, and toilets. Every tent boasts its own verandah, providing a perfect spot to enjoy the magnificent sunsets and breathtaking views of the Okavango Delta.
