This 4-day fly in safari takes you to SAFARI FRANK’s favourite camp in the Greater Masai Mara, Kicheche Bush Camp!
Itinerary in Brief
3 nights Kicheche Bush Camp
This is simply the best safari for photographers keen to get those special and up close images of the large cats!
Kicheche Bush Camp is part of a portfolio of 4 lodges owned by Greg Monson and photographer Paul Goldstein. This is a great team with a real focus on conservation and photography. The Camp is located in the Olare Motorogi Conservancy and consists of only 6 tents making it a very intimate camp. There is only 1 bed per 140 ha of wilderness, making the whole safari experience exclusive.
The guiding is also top notch and with a real understanding and focus on photography. The Camp is located in the Conservancy, but close to the border of the National Reserve which is in our view the best location in the Mara. The density of large predators is arguably the highest in Africa. The conservancy model adopted by the Conservancy pays the local landowners’ higher amounts of rent in return for more exclusivity.
The Camp focus on game drives with mostly 4 guests per vehicle and superb guides with a real understanding of photography. Being in a conservancy off-road driving and night drives are possible, ensuring a real close up and personal experience with the iconic large animals. Walking and fly camping are also offered, as are day trips into the National Reserve including hot air ballooning.
Darren and Emma the managers at the Camp are fantastic hosts and will make your stay so much fun that you would just like to return time and time again! Darren’s background as a baker and restauranteur has nothing to do with this urge, we promise……
Kicheche Bush Camp is one of our favourites, highly recommended!

Detailed itinerary
Day 1 to 4: Kicheche Bush Camp, Masai Mara
From Wilson Airport, Nairobi, board a charter flight bound for the Masai Mara.
Touching down into this magnificent wilderness, your safari will begin with a warm welcome from your guide and game viewing will being straight from the airstrip.
Your days will be spent exploring this conservancy with early morning game drives, either followed by bush breakfast set up under the acacia trees or returning to camp for a scrumptious brunch and afternoon siesta. As the camp is not fenced you can watch the wildlife roam freely through camp from your luxury tent.
Spend the afternoons exploring further afield and watching the sunset set over the savannah, returning to camp at dusk for hot showers, then an aperitif by the fireside with your hosts and other guests before settling down for dinner. A very special treat at this camp!
There is also opportunity to explore the Masai Mara National Reserve especially during the migration season. The open plains host a fabulous array of plains game such as gazelles, impala, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest and eland. Never far away are the predators such as lion, cheetah, leopard and hyena which the guides are finely tuned to finding.
Besides game driving the camp offers guided bush walks, community and village visits as well, or a hot air balloon safari followed by a champagne bush breakfast.
Kicheche Bush Camp is a small, classic, intimate, luxury tented camp completely unfenced, accommodating a maximum of twelve guests. There are six spacious, fully insect-proof, custom designed tents, equipped with twin or double beds, linen, bedside tables, luggage racks and rugs. Bathrooms are en-suite and are equipped with a dresser, flushing toilet and a traditional safari bucket shower with a view. There are comfortable chairs on each veranda overlooking the plains. One tent can be converted into a triple on request. There is a spacious well-furnished lounge and dining tent, although we prefer alfresco if weather permits.
On the last day after breakfast back at camp the team will bid you farewell as you board your transfer on your final journey across the plains to the airstrip for a charter flight to Nairobi.
Your onward journey and once back at home you will be left with long lasting memories of this very special place!
