Why we like it
- An authentic cultural experience with the Bushmen.
- The only Botswana safari camp to be majority owned by Bushmen.
- Great year-round game viewing.
- Water and land based activities.
- Small and intimate camp with only 4 tents
The most natural way to learn the secrets of the bush and the dying art of survival skills is to try your hand at it. For travellers who wish to learn interactively about nature from the perspective of the oldest culture on the planet, Bushman Plains Camp offers the chance to use all sense to experience the Bushman traditions interconnected with nature
Bushman Plains is an authentic mobile camp, with the ability to move between spectacular exclusive campsites within our 370,000 acre wilderness area. This allows for the camp to always be in the best locations for the wildlife in the true nomadic tradition of the Bushman culture. Even though they mobile, they do not normally move during your stay but rather remain set in the ideal location.
The style demands that the camp be intimate, so they are one of Botswana’s smallest camps with just four guest tents. Bushman Plains features a classic style using large Hemingway-esque Meru tents. Each tent is 8 meters x 4 meters, and features comfortable beds with high-quality linens and duvets. There is a dressing area with a wardrobe and a sink with running water, plus separate private shower and toilet areas. Showers are the typical bucket setup found throughout much of the safari world; staff hoist a bucket of heated water, which is then delivered through a normal shower head in the privacy of your own tent. A solar inverter system provides electricity for tent lighting and battery charging.
The central area of the camp includes a mess tent with veranda for relaxed hanging out. Central to Bushman culture is the campfire area where we share ancient stories, and tales from today, under the stunning Botswana night sky. The camp chefs produce delicious meals that are predominantly western in style but making best use of local ingredients with some options to include traditional fare if you desire.
The small, authentic camp is located in the magical Okavango Delta, teeming with wildlife year-round, and is blessed by permanent water channels so our guests enjoy a wide mix of land and water-based safari activities. These high quality wildlife experiences are made richer by the best opportunity for cultural engagement within the Okavango. The guides, trackers, and staff are keen to share their traditions with you on activities and in camp. Whether you are helping to track lions on a game drive, learning about medicinal plans on a bush walk, or enjoying songs around the campfire, you’ll learn the way of the Bushman–and come away with one-of-a-kind safari memories.
