Pembezoni is one of the Serengeti’s rarest experiences: a camp positioned on the edge of the Wilderness Zone, an area so tightly protected that only a handful of operators are permitted to enter. This is safari as it once was – no crowds, no noise, no pressure on wildlife. Just open plains, ancient kopjes and the freedom to explore on foot. Built with an exceptionally light footprint and run with a deep respect for nature, Pembezoni honours the Serengeti’s wild heart while offering meaningful comfort and warm Tanzanian hospitality.

Tanzania Pembezoni Camp (1)

Pembezoni Tented Camp offers a safari experience that feels untouched, authentic, and private. The camp sits between Nyabogati and Kilimafedha, close to the Serengeti’s Wilderness Zone. This protected area limits general game-viewing, so wildlife behaves as it has for centuries.

Guests come here to escape the busier central plains. The camp creates space to reconnect with raw, unfiltered wilderness. African Environments operates Pembezoni and holds special permission to access this rare area. A minimum three-night stay is recommended to enjoy both game drives and guided walks from camp.

Pembezoni blends “old-school safari” charm with thoughtful comfort. Hot showers, excellent meals, and solar lighting keep the experience relaxed and welcoming. Nights are spent listening to the Serengeti’s sounds drifting across the plains. Many guests say this is the highlight of their entire safari.

Experiences & Activities:

Walking Safaris (Half or Full Day) – Direct From Camp:Walking safaris are a major feature here. The camp’s location offers rare and exclusive access to superb walking terrain. Highly trained, armed guides lead each walk. Guests learn to read tracks and understand wildlife behaviour. These walks reveal a new perspective on the Serengeti.

Hadzabe Cultural Walking Safaris:African Environments also offers Hadzabe Cultural Walking Safaris. This once-in-a-lifetime experience includes walking, tracking, and foraging with the Hadzabe. Running with hunters may also be part of the day. Their ancient skills and knowledge are shared openly. A long-standing partnership ensures respectful and meaningful exchange with the community near Lake Eyasi.

Private, Crowd-Free Game Viewing:Game viewing inside the Wilderness Zone is restricted. However, the surrounding region offers superb wildlife access. Expect lions on kopjes, elephants in long grass, and plains game on open savannahs. Vehicle numbers remain low, so sightings feel calm and natural.

Hot-Air Ballooning:Hot-air ballooning is available at sunrise. These flights show sweeping views of plains, rivers, and wildlife. It is a true bucket-list experience.

Camp Life & Leisure:The camp encourages slow, peaceful moments. A cosy library tent offers quiet reading space. Board games and cornhole add simple fun. Evenings often end around the open fire under starry skies. Meals are hearty, fresh, and beautifully prepared.

Photography & Slow Safari Moments:Minimal vehicle traffic creates excellent conditions for photographers. Wildlife behaves naturally, offering patient observers rewarding sightings and scenes.

Pembezoni pairs perfectly with Mysigio Tented Camp – Ngorongoro for a seamless, off-the-beaten-path northern circuit.

Accommodation:

Pembezoni features 10 spacious ensuite tents designed for comfort and full immersion in the surrounding wilderness. Tents suit single, double, twin, or triple use and feel open, calm, and private. Each tent includes an ensuite compost toilet, a hot safari-style shower, and double wash basins. Large private verandahs offer space to relax and enjoy the surrounding views. Lighting is powered entirely by solar energy, with inverters available for charging batteries.

The shared areas are welcoming and thoughtfully designed. A large mess tent features airy windows and sweeping views across the plains. A charming library tent provides shaded seating for quiet reading and reflection. A flush public toilet is available in the main area for added comfort. Evenings often gather around the open fire, ideal for sundowners and storytelling.

Dining at Pembezoni is generous, wholesome, and carefully prepared. Mornings begin with hot breakfasts, fresh fruit, and homemade granola. Lunch may be enjoyed in camp, packed as a picnic, or served as a surprise bush meal. Evenings end with delicious three-course dinners under canvas or beneath the open African sky.

Pembezoni is built lightly and respectfully with a strong conservation focus. The camp runs on solar power and uses low-impact systems throughout. It also supports anti-poaching de-snaring teams. These efforts help protect the Serengeti for generations to come.
